Introduction
This
is a small tutorial for 3dfx Voodoo5 6000 owners: however, it
could be useful for Voodoo5 5500 owners too. Here you can read
about to get the best setup of your 3dfx hardware with Unreal
Tournament 2004 game using the Microsoft Windows XP as Operative
System and the 3dfxzone.it Amigamerlin 3.1 R11 as 3dfx video
driver.
Test System: Hardware and Software Profiles
We have used a machine featuring those main specs:
-
Jetway
V266B as motherboard;
-
AMD
Athlon 2000+ as processor;
-
Crucial
1Gb 400MHz DDR as ram;
-
3dfx
Voodoo5 6000 128Mb as video card;
-
Microsoft
Windows XP updated with Service Pack 1 as OS;
-
Microsoft
DirectX 9.0c as DirectX API;
-
Amigamerlin
3.1 R11
as 3dfx driver
-
Unreal
Tournament 2004 updated with 3355
patch;
-
Graphics
game settings at the normal level;
-
HyperSnap-DX 6.01.00
as
screen capture tool.
Amigamerlin 3.1 R11 and 3dfx Tools Configuration
Of course, we have used 3dfx Tool to customize the 3dfx driver default configuration: being Unreal Tournament 2004 a Direct3D based application, we show our Special Settings and Direct3D controls only. You have not to read about comments: this is thus because you must just replace this configuration.
3dfx Tools -> Special Settings
3dfx Tools -> Direct3D Settings
3dfx Tools -> Direct3D Settings
Results
Now you can see four screenshots captured with the 3dfx Voodoo5 6000 card in two different states of game and driver setup: we got a good visual quality now by running the game at 1280x1024 without AA and now at 1024x768 with AA at 4X. In both the cases UT 2004 was sufficiently playable: at 1280x1024 it runs with very (very) fine speed too. You can see both istant and average values of frame rate on right corner of those images.
1280x1024x32 - Edge AA OFF - AA OFF
1024x768x32 - Edge AA OFF - AA 4X
1280x1024x32 - Edge AA OFF - AA OFF
1024x768x32 - Edge AA OFF - AA 4X
Unfortunately
HyperSnapDX was not able to correctly capture the frames with AA:
however, click here to download a zip file
(its size is equal to 3.17Mb) containing the images in bmp format and without compression.
About Thanks
From 3dfxzone.it arrives a lot of thanks to both our skilled programmers and all - public and private - beta testers: you are helping us to exceed time limits of Voodoo cards.
Thank you.
