Hello guys :)

I have the card mentioned at subject, and wierdly, some memory chips are rated at 83 MHz, and all others are at 100 MHz.

I have paired it in SLI with Dragon II Voodoo 2 12 MB, which has all memory chips rated at 100 MHz.

I am using fastvoodoo 4.6 drivers (default).

Am I hurting the 83 MHz chips? Or the both cards are working on 83 MHz?

Any advice is welcome :)

Hi Smucek, you're welcome.

Surely Voodoo2 Dragon II is working at 100MHz, being its behaviour independent from Orchid Righteous Voodoo 2. Regarding this one, I assum its hybrid setup of memory chips to be a choose at design level, so hardware is set to work with all memory chips at effective frequency of 83MHz. In fact in this way slower chips dont't run in overclock.

Thank you for posting and sharing your thoughts on 3dfx hardware.

Bye bye

Smucek

Thanks for the reply, I don't think I have ever seen anyone posted a voodoo 2 card with 83 MHz chips...

Hi Smucek and welcome,
your Orchid sample is not the only one with 83mhz ram, I think it is related to the manufacturing date and the 3dfx chips installed on the voodoo2 board.

Yours is an A1 revision with code 09-00348-"02".

The 3dfx chips installed on your video card have a code "D18". On other cards with 83mhz ram that I attach, with code 09-00348-"02", you will see that the chips always have the initial "D18" or "D19".

From the A1 revision with code 09-00348-"03" you will notice that the 3dfx chip codes are newer and carry the initial "D21" or "D20". And the installed ram is different.

I don't think you will have a problem using them with any driver. One vogons user used them with Fastvoodoo drivers, which set the speed to 93mhz by default:

His problem was related to a false contact on the pins of the 3dfx chips.
But after solving this problem, his voodoo2 worked perfectly.

See you. :)
I am sorry for my English ;) :D
