thanks for the details !

it would be intersting to repeat the test on a quad core platform :)
ups, or even on 6x or 8x core..hehe...

how much did you pay for the adapter ?
do u have a online link to see where can i look for one ?

This is pretty dang awesome.

Is there any chance you might be able to run a bootable cd or flash drive with a linux distribution and run lspci -vv from a command line?

It should show all PCI express and PCI devices. I would image that PCI bridge will show up in there somewhere, and it would also show what clock rate the V5 was running at on the pci bridge.

I'm guessing that stock, with just the adapter, it may be running as 66mhz PCI like the V5 agp did, and if the clock speed scaled with the overclock, then it may be running at a higher rate, like 70 or so mhz.

I keep trying to remember what program I used to show pci bus data on windows XP. I'll see if I can track that down as it would be easier for you to verify with a windows program.

This is really nice work though. I had always wondered about those PCIe bridge devices. It seems they work a lot better than anyone would have expected.

Hello, thank you for discussing about this issue.

EDIT (2013) :
You were right and I ran successfully V5500 Pci @70 mhz in 2013.

I had listed pci peripherals with Everest, and you can get the best information on this french topic starting on page 30 with 'V5500 PLX Pci-e Bridged first appearance'  post and on following pages :
http://forum.hardware.fr/hfr/Hardware/2D-3D/topic-voodoo-3dfx-sujet_567660_30.htm
The card is recognized as a pci device on Bus N°3 / Peripheral N°0 / Function N°0
Even if Everest  displays the bus 3/0/0/  is '66mhz capable' (because it's interfaced with a pci-E 1X connector), in my opinion the V5500 always operates @33 mhz when bridged. I think the V5500 Pci will be damaged and burned if pushed to 66 mhz, and It's not my idea to damage these 3dfx oldies.
I had benched V5500 pci many times and I know these cards are clocked @33 mhz but, according to my little experience with Wpcredit & Wpcrset software, are 40 mhz capable. I think when pushing the Pci-E clock from 100 to 112, the card I/O frequency is boosted from 33 to 37 mhz. I would not run the V5500 at this frequency for a long time, as I never damaged a Voodoo card.
My idea was to give a contribution to the community for their work, explore the Voodoo 4/5 pci-express bridged options, and have some fun with my oldies. :jap:

Mradu, Here you have a reliable french firm to find the PEX 8112

thanks for the informations mate !
i would not be so sure that the card will be burned at 66Mhz.
anyway, it's a risk .....
if you look on other forums, there is an agp2pci adapter witch allow to a voodoo5 ro run in a pci slot. This adapter can run at 66Mhz.
Some users mod this adapter to run at 66Mhz, and the results are very nice with a v5 6000 :)

the adapter price of 40 euros is ok :)

Score 3DMark2001SE (66 mhz ) V5 5500 AGP o/c à 177 Mhz : 3740 Points

Wow ! Very fine score.
You are the leader.
But the Voodoo5 5500 Pci-express remains a fierce outsider

Have you tried sfft 1.6 on your machine, I am curious to see what score you get.

@ mate175
There is a german topic about WoW and Voodoo4/5.
http://www.forum-3dcenter.org/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=237876&page=38

Translation :
World of Warcraft: Cataclysm v4.0.6.13xxx runs on Voodoo5 (Windows XP x86 + SFFT 1.6). Visual range has to be set to minimum.
Issues :
Screen flickering even with 2x SSAA.
Solution :
Run WoW in a Window.
Turn off Hardware Cursor.

In the above Thread there is also a screenshot with settings.

For SFFT, these are some performances of 3dfx Voodoo5 5500 PLX
powered by  'charmed drivers' SFFT 1.6 on Win 7  32 bits
