hello everybody,

i would like to use my old voodoo2-card in a computer running on windows 2000.

i installed fastvoodoo 4.0, but the card is only running in glide-mode. but i want to play some older games, and these games need direct3d. what can i do?

when i used the voodoo2-card in a system running windows 98, there was no problem with direct3d...

thanks for help!

You can't.
Under Win2k, XP and even NT4, you run with a Voodoo 2 in glide or OpenGl. This is not a problem with the card or the driver but with the OS which doesn't support the Voodoo 2.

If you want a support for D3D, or you come back to Win9x or you install a dual boot (Win2k - Win9x).

There are drivers for win2k, which allow voodoo2 to run D3D apps.

There are 3 problems to this:
-No Glide/OpenGL support
-800x600 Max res, you will be using Voodoo2 as a 2d card
-Some garbage may appear near some explorer icons.

Intel Celeron 433 MHz
128MB + 32MB RAM
40GB + 5.5GB HDD
ATI Rage IIc (poor D3D and OpenGL performance)
Dimond Monster 3D II 8MB 3D-Accelerator
Win98SE
Win2K Pro SP4 + Aston Shell 1.9.0
RedHat Linux 7.5
DirectX 8.1 (Win98)
FastVoodoo2 4.6 Driver Set
DirectX 9.0b (Win2K)
FastVoodoo2 4.0XP GE Driver Set

Maybe a stupid question, but who would want a V2 to run D3D nowadays ? Very much any halfway modern primary card does a better job in D3D and OpenGL. For me a V2 today is solely there for Glide support.

If you want to try to run "old games" using D3D perhaps...

umm... me would wanna :D

I dun have money to buy new video card, so I'm using voodoo2 for D3D games.

Trust me, it is much easier to install a Win2K/Win98SE dual boot system, than to wait for D3D voodoo2 Win2k Compatibility.

I'm playing all my games under Win98SE and doin everythin else under Win2k.

This way game run as fast as they can on my machine due to a small register size.
