Hello everyone!

I was just wondering which newer (dx 9 capable) cards are still compatible with my old bx board? This board has a 3.3v, 2x agp slot. I know older agp 4x cards are backwards compatible. But all new cards are agp 8x, and that might not be compatible. Is there any of u guys that run a new agp 8x card on a bx board? Or does anyone know what the newest possible card would be for my system ? Thx

It might be hard to find either a 9700 Pro or a 9500 Pro since they have been out of production so long. Both will work very well on an older system though. I'm sure Ebay will be the place to look.

The only problem you might have is your power supply. An older BX system probably has a 250w P/S or less and those 2 cards should be run with a 300w P/S or better. Also, unfortunately WinME is the only Win9x OS that's supported if you are going to use Win9x. If you are going to run the new card in the system you have listed in your sig I would recommend adding a little more memory to the system unless you intend on running Win2000. WinXP will run a little better w/512Mb RAM even though M$ says it runs fine w/256Mb RAM. Win2000 will run fast and smooth on that system just the way it is with a Radeon card for sure!

Yes I'm going to run it with my Tualatin 1600 system. Im running windows xp profesional sp 2, so indeed I will change the ram amount. I was already planning to get 2 more sticks of 256 mb cas 2, so that i have all 3 slots filled with 256 mb. I've heard that added 3 of the same amount of memory could increase perfomance a little. And offcourse, 768 Mb is still nice for most games to run great, even if it's slow sdram. Oh jeah, I got some great news, i've found someone that is going to sell me his radeon 9700 pro BBA for around 95 euro's. I guess this will make the system complete.

Well guys, I have just bought a new system, with the radeon in it! The radeon didn't run on my bx board, because I couldn't get a bba card. So it was time for a new system. Unfortunately the voodoo 5 won't fit in this mobo But then again, when I want to test, I can still use the V4 pci.

The newest card from nV which is AGP 2X Compatible is 6200A (non-A can't work with 2X boards)
also XGI Volari and S3 Deltachrome S8 is also 2X Compatible

yeah,v4 PCI is great to have if you want to test something on a vsa-100 based card in a new system.plug in,test,plug out.no need to take out the primary graphics card,hehe.I do it exactly this way,works great.only one strange thing,I have to set the PCI card as primary in my BIOs to avoid xp locking up right after starting,but thats not really a big deal..

(btw,my first post in a non-3dfx section of the forum-whats next,buying an nvidia card..? I dont think so:D)
