Hello!

I am planning on building a Voodoo2 rig based on a P2 platform. Currently I have only one Voodoo2 card, which I believe is the 12 mb version. I spotted another card on sale, but it's the 8 mb version. They would be mismatched to begin with (my card is TechWorks, the one on sale is a Diamond) and they have a different amount of memory, but would they still work in SLI?

Thanks for all yer help!

Voodoo Magic: Pentium 120, 80 MB EDO, Sound Blaster Live!, TechWorks 12 MB Voodoo2
Thunderpower: Pentium 4, 512 MB DDR2, Sound Blaster Audigy 2, Creative 3D Blaster Voodoo2
Stardust: Pentium 2, 256 MB DDR1, Sound Blaster Audigy 2, Creative 3D Blaster Voodoo2

No, it won't work. For SLI both cards have to be from same manufacturer or if not to have same layout and same ammount of memory. For mismatched voodoo 2 pair you have to use special drivers (Koolsmoky's). You can find them on this site.

Alright, thanks for the heads-up. So the setup I described would work with Koolsmoky's drivers, even though they have a different amount of memory?

From what I have read it will work but they will function as 8mb cards in SLI mode.

voodoo system 1 :DFI PRO875b P4 @ 2.8, 2x1gb Corsair XMS PRO, BFG 6800GT OC, SB Live
2x Diamond Monster 3D II SLI

voodoo system 2: MSI K7N2-L AMD XP2600+, 2x1G OCZ Platinum, Gainward Geforce3, SB Audigy
2x STB Black Magic VOODOO2 cards SLI

I never tried double mismatched pair - not same manufacturer and different amount of memory.. If you want to try it, do it and inform us...

Well, I ended up with a Pentium 120 system and a P4 system. The Pentium 120 board only fits one Voodoo2, so if I want to SLI the cards, I need to use the P4 system.

I am a complete newbie to retro setups and Voodoo2 cards, so I have a few questions. First off, what drivers should I use for the single Voodoo2 (Pentium 120 platform running Win98)? Koolsmoky's or FastVoodoo2 4.6?

Secondly, what OS should I use for the P4 platform? I am probably going to use the P4 platform as a testbench to learn more about the whole Voodoo2 scene, so what would be the best OS for that?

Thunderpower: Pentium 4, 512 MB DDR2, Sound Blaster Audigy 2, Creative 3D Blaster Voodoo2

If supported, install win98se then win xp on your p4. You can also search this forum for win 2000, as I don't remember how well it fares with voodoo2.
How comes the p120 only fits one v2?

As for the driver, after you've installed the OS, the motherboard drivers and the video drivers (basically, once everything but the voodoo drivers are installed), why don't you make a ghost then try them both and see which ones work best for you. Good luck and keep us posted.

Allright, I'll test around with Win 98 SE, 2000 and XP with the P4 system. Later on I might try Vista and Win 7 just for fun

The P120 board fits only one Voodoo2 because of the heatsink on the processor. Here's what I mean:

The heatsink is directly in line with the first three PCI slots, and the Voodoo2 is so long that it hits the heatsink. Only the fourth PCI slot has enough room for the Voodoo2, so to fit another one, I would have to cut few of the fins on the heatsink. I don't have tools for that and I don't want to ruin the system by doing something like that. Besides I believe one Voodoo2 is more than enough for that system.

I have now set up both systems, the P120 is currently running Win98 SE and the P4 is running WinXP. Haven't got to install any drivers for the P120 system, but I just installed FastVoodoo2 XP GE to the P4 system, all seemed to be working smoothly but I encountered some very weird events.

When I tried to run the donut demo included in the FV2 XP GE pack, there was an error about Glide .dll missing, but after checking out the Voodoo2 settings tab in the Display Properties, the other demo started, as well as the donut demo. After one succesful run on the donut demo, it again started showing the error about Glide .dll missing. After this, when I entered the Voodoo2 settings tab in the Display Properties, clicked OK, closed out the Advanced window, opened Advanced window again and tried to open the Voodoo2 settings tab, the whole Display Properties window disappeared.

I realized that I haven't installed proper drivers for the main GPU (Geforce4 MX 440), could that cause the bugs? I'll try to install the drivers for the MX 440 and then re-install the FastVoodoo drivers and see if it does anything.

E: Yup, the missing drivers caused the issues, the demos and the settings are working properly now.

E2: Allright, now I have set up the P120 almost ready. I am now missing two drivers, Primary IDE Controller driver and Advanced Power Management support driver. I tried to install the FastVoodoo2 4.6 without those drivers, but the FV2 drivers didn't work at all.
Both are giving Code 10. I can only guess what the IDE controller driver is, but I don't have any idea how to get either working. What drivers am I missing?

E3: It seems the FV2 drivers bugging broke something in Windows, because now Windows doesn't shut down without forcing a power-off. I guess I have to do a clean install and try again.

Got the P120 system up and running as well. So far I have tested Quake 2, Rollcage, Re-Volt and Monster Truck Madness 2. Only Quake 2 and Monster Truck Madness 2 work. Rollcage hangs up on startup but you can recover the system by killing the process, Re-Volt starts up but freezes the whole system on initial loading screen. Any tips for solving the problem with those two games?

The P120 system is using only one card, not SLI.
