Hank,

My picks are

1. 4X (really just 1.5V at 2x would work for me) first.  been thinking about upgrading my system, but I am an Intel head from way back and don't have a PCI v5.  We could just buy a level conversion kit that would work in the AGP slot, but the ones that I have run across have been very expensive $$$.

2. more memory (and faster too).  I have a guy here in the lab that can do the mods for me.  I know what part to use, but don't have a source for the ram chips.  also, what else needs to be done to the board to make the VSA-100's see the extra ram?  I know that the BIOS is already ready for the 64Mb per chip (hehe) and that you have already done some of the legwork for the mods here.

I didn't realize that there was power on the inside planes of the V5 where the slot should be,  good thing I did'nt go a cuttin yet.  What is the part Number and source for the AGP adapter that you found?  And what other signals are you concerned about that may be out of voltage spec that I can research for you here?

Textures for the vsa-100 are loaded directly into the video cards RAM and stored there.  the DX test for "textures" is for cards that dynamically load and reload textures from AGP Aperture memory storage in the PC which the VSA-100's don't use.

Hmmmmm.  did you install the latest and greatest via chipset .inf as well as your monitor .inf?  make sure you run your desktop at say 1024x768 and then set the game up for 800x600.  you must also run the desktop colors at 32bit too.  you also need to go into the tdhq folder in program files folder and hit "setup.exe" for the beta10 to install properly and at all.  set your desktop at high res THEN do the nwnconfig.exe.  it also won't work without SOME patching for nwn.  1.28 seems to work great.  DX 8.1b. (NOT dx9.0)

ya, I had the same problems with winxp too.  the solution is to go into "safe" mode and do all the deleting.  you must delete all references to 3dfx both in the registry AND the hard drive.  winxp has this annoying "feature" that automatically "rescues" any drivers you try to replace or delete.  I think it gets the files from some sort of "cache" folder.  once I did this and then installed the 3dhq beta 10 it worked sweet.  you should be able to see all three dx tests run flawlessly.  dx7, dx8, and dx9.

NWN only works with win98se on my system. win2k and winxp have opengl issues that are not? driver related on ALL opengl games. I am using the tdhq beta10 with the NWN 1.28 patch.  you MUST run the desktop resolution one notch HIGHER than the game will be running.  and don't forget to run the nwnconfig.exe after setting yer desktop a little higher.  the 1.28 patch gives you the correct frequencies for the monitor and helps with the hardware mouse thingy automattically (a checkbox in nwnconfig.exe proggy).

PS.  the three title screens and the movie will no longer show up with the desktop setting a little higher but the game runs flawlessly.  just click through the blank screens with the space bar and it works.
