General Hardware / Overclocking CPU...
16 June 2004, 04:53:59
Hi!

I've overclocked my CPU by changing FSB speed from 66.8MHz to 75MHz.
(see specs below)

My CPU has a multiplier of 6.5

My computer is in the basement(temp. around +18 deg. cel.), its case is opened 24/7. There is no additional cooling. Do you think that raising the FSB freq. to 83MHz will make it overheat, and how will this affect my Voodoo2 Video Card? (FSB affects AGP, PCI too...)

There are drivers for win2k, which allow voodoo2 to run D3D apps.

There are 3 problems to this:
-No Glide/OpenGL support
-800x600 Max res, you will be using Voodoo2 as a 2d card
-Some garbage may appear near some explorer icons.
#18
actually, there is D3D acceleration but only with DirectX 5? or 6.

Most games would not run.

The fact is... unless a separate driver set is created to allow win2k support for "detached devices", there is no way to make this work (unless someone writes a program that translates all D3D function calls to OpenGL function calls

found another win2k voodoo2 driver, seems to support direct3D only, not the one posted @ falconfly ??different version??

It is possible to edit the driver setup to install 3dfxzone's glide/opengl drivers (they are just commented out)

anyway, heres the link: http://www.opendrivers.com/driver/2241/3dfx-Voodoo2-Display-Driver-1.4.html

Heres another driver.

very strange, this driver is for voodoo2, it claims to be for Win2k/XP.

As you open the package, you can see several direct 3d files. Now, I think that this driver is either not working or its misplaced. Any1 volunteers to test it for me? plz plz plz :D

I know that testing drivers can be dangerous for your Operating System and I don't want to mess up my windows.

strange... I've read about these drivers and the description says they only support Glide/OpenGL. Now I'm very confused, they looked like they had some D3D files...

there is an alternative to having d3d voodoo2 support, but I don't know if this will work, it should work if you have DirectX 7 or maybe even 8, but 9...

download, install and enable DXGL Wrapper by Realtech VR

At this point, it will try to emulate DirectX by using openGL drivers of your primary video card.

Here's the part that I'm not sure about.

Try doing this:
go to start >>> run
type "regedit"

in your registry editor window, go to
HKLM\Software\Microsoft\DirectDraw\

try to find this key: EnumerateAttachedSecondaries
if your see it, change its value to 1

if you don't, try creating it (Right M Click >>> New >>> DWORD Value).

This is just speculation, but maybe now, it will work. I'd say this process is completely safe as long as you follow these instructions and don't mess with other values.

As for the Original 3dfx Ref Driver Set V 1.0b, It will only work if you have 2 monitors.

3D-Analyze and TnL games / damn my voodo2

heh guys, the new MESA release doesn't even work for me. All I'm getting is error initializing opengl mode n stuff (depends on the game). Counter-Strike works with older MESA release, but doesn't work with the new one, but thats no prob, I'm still sticking to WickedGL as it gives you much higher performance, just wanted to tell you...

Min Req:
PIII 500MHz
96MB RAM
16MB Video Card
500MB HD

!My specs @ the bottom!

Hi! Just got the game. Takes up around 4 GB for me (DOD, RECOCHET, TFC and DMC are also installed). Looks nice, really nice, although getting 15 fps avg with Mesa, 25 fps avg with WickedGL. You can get more fps at the cost of quality. Use HLToolZ, all posible HL environment variables can be tweaked: Texture size, lightning, models, ANYTHING.

Some other tricks:
Create two files in ..\CZ\cstrike\ folder (same folder where config.cfg is).

I don't know where the offline game files are, so you better put these files in every folder you see file config.cfg

The files contain this:
First file: autoexec.cfg
exec userconfig.cfg

Second file: userconfig.cfg

//**********
//0=OFF,1=ON
//**********
//Disable blood
violence_ablood 0
violence_hblood 0
//Disable body parts separation when dying by explosion
violence_agibs 0
violence_hgibs 0
//Don't show your bullet shells
max_shells 0
//Don't show smoke from your shooting
max_smokepuffs 0
//Use your system CPU in conjunction with your Video Card's CPU
r_mmx 1
//Enable Z-TRICK - no quality loss, lots of fps gained.
//If experiencing problems, disable this
gl_ztrick 1
//Enable Dithering
gl_dither 1
//Enable precaching, the game will load all the textures before the game starts
precache 1
//The rate at which the game is accessing HDD/Internet (I think, 2000-2500 is best for old computers)
rate 2500
//Disable weather effects
cl_weater 1
//Let the bodies(ded ppl) stay on the ground, big performance hit, so... OFF
cl_corpsestay 0.0
//Online game only: use only two models: GIGN and L33T CREW, big help when a lot of ppl are playing
cl_minmodels 1

Note:
1) If values are changed through console, while game is loaded, the changes will take only after you quit the game (go to the main menu, no game loaded at the time).
2) These changes affect CS1.5 and higher.
3) Use HLToolZ for more changes (use built-in profiles). For me, the changes that I listed are enough for around 40-50 fps game with WickedGL @ 640x480 16-bit.
4) To play, place WickedGL opengl32.dll file into ../CZ/, where czero.exe or hl.exe files are.
5) Game looks awesome, compared to CS 1.5 and CS 1.6, I recommend to play offline missions, overall, I rate the game 8/10.

try placing opengl32.dll file included in WickedGL package in to the same folder, where unrealtournament.exe is. Everything should work fine.

I don't remember if voodoo 1 is supported by WGL, but if its not, try using MESA or any other driver (when you place opengl32.dll in the same folder with executable, it should switch to opengl mode automaticly).

I'm using voodoo2 and I never had any problems with UT, running at 100 fps avg. with WickedGL at 800x600 res.

install WickedGL, it will increase your fps by 40%

you should check ebay (both ebay.ca and ebay.com), new stuff appears there every day.

I think that I'm gonna get voodoo5 5000 pci, I'm gonna get a new computer soon (in a month or two) and I need a good video card (for old games) to go with ati radeon vc. Unless the motherboard has 2 agp slots, I will have to choose the pci version.

Voodoo2 Setup and tweaking / Voodoo2

I'm guessing that one of the previously installed drivers messed up your registry. Under Win 2k/XP, you should have 2 voodoo2 services running at all times (control panel >>> system >>> device manager >>> (check "show hidden devices" in menu "view"), and look for voodoo2 services. If those are not present, your voodoo2 will not work.

If everything looks fine, try uninstalling the drivers and trying to do a troubleshooting install.

just wondering:

Is this right? (first picture is not very clear)

quantum 3d has... I counted 12MB of memory and 3 Video processors, 2 on one side and 1 on another?

If I got something wrong, don't judge me too hard [:o)] ...just trying to learn.

BTW, I decided to get a voodoo 3/4/5 video card, can you suggest which one of these is better towards performance, compatibility and quality? 3/4/5 ?

I've heard that there are a lot of problems with voodoo5 and it is not compatible with some games...
