@ahavasi,

Very Nice ;)

QuoteIdeally, I wanted to keep both the V5 and the Radeon in the machine and switch cables between the two when I was playing Glide games. Well, I wasn't able to do that (the V5 kept getting installed as an extended desktop and never seemed to be an option in 3D games).

Very strange as I have used this exact setup (Radeon 9800pro 256 mb, Voodoo 5500 pci, MSI K8T Neo-FIS2R, Athlon 64-3400 on Windows 2000 SP4) for about a year now and it works like a charm  ;)

@MUDASS,

PCI bus speed is 33 mhz, AGP bus speed is 66 mhz, are you sure your not talking about your Front side bus speed ?

Voodoo4/5 Setup and tweaking / Halo Problem

You need the config file from this post:

The game will probably be a bit slow on a 800 mhz cpu though.

They were a company that supplied aftermarket cooling solutions for 3dfx cards:

QuoteOriginal AAVID cooling is crap, it's enough perhaps for Voodoo 2, but not for VSA-100 chips.

Sorry, but I have to disagree, I beleive that except for the crappy thermal compound used by 3dfx the factory set-up is sufficient. Its the ram that is the limiting factor in overclocking VSA-100 based cards, you could put a peltier cooling system on the gpu and still not get a better overclock than with the factory set-up ;)

As always overclocking involves a small degree of risk, but if your trying to push your card to its limits ramsinks will get you higher than any type of aftermarket cooling on the gpu ;)

well, I personally would not do it in 1-mhz increments (far to time consuming), my first attempt would be to try 175 mhz, then 180, then 185, etc.

My personal experience with overclocking my 6 vsa-100 based cards is that its the ram that gives out before the gpu, so aftermarket heatsink fan combiations seem like overkill to me, better off to put some ram sinks on the ram and leave the gpu as is or even better remove the factory heatsink clean off the crappy gunk 3dfx used and replace with a high quality thermal paste then re-attach.

I have a 5500 pci model with Toshiba ram that will do 200mhz stock [8D]

Here's a good review, this card is intended for casual gaming at best:

Well, I have it installed on my 5500 system and it works like a charm.

You can manually install the SFFT driver by:

1)unzipping it to a folder on your hard drive.

2) go into the folder were you unzipped the SFFT driver and copy and paste the 3dfxvs.dll into your c:\winnt\system32 and the 3dfxvsm.sys into your C:\winnt\system32\drivers folder (or xp's equivalent, I prefer Windows 2000 myself).

3) reboot your pc and you should be good to go !

I have this game and its done in software, a radeon or geforce card does exactly the same thing, so it's not a T-Buffer effect ;)

I prefer using mesafx @ 1024x768 resolution, 32 bit colour, 16 bit textures with everything else maxed which gives me great gaming fps (30 - 60).

Note: For me anyway 32 bit textures kills the framerate in some area's of the game sending fps into low 20's [}:)]

Yeah, I could use a couple of those as well ;)

I agree with ps47, original 3dfx 1.07.00 and wickedgl when needed.

Maybe if they (Metabyte)were contacted by one of us, they might agree to release it as freeware, they have not offered it as a purchasable product for year's now.

I legaly purchased Wickedgl many years ago and still have a copy of the email they sent me with the serial #, but I think it (serial #) was tied to that version because I can't unlock any demo version I've tried (I lost the floppy's I saved it on).

I enjoy researching, acquiring and playing older games as I typically find them to have better gameplay and originality than 95% of the Sh*t games released in the last 4 -5 years, so I agree with ps47 that if I cant find them in retail or ebay my only alternative is to get them from abandonware sites.

Some of these fantastic older games would be most likely lost forever to the general public if it were not for some of these abandonware sites [8D]

Just my opinion ;)

It's like owning a Radeon ati card, monthly driver updates [8D]

Who could have ever thought that so many years after the demise of 3dfx we are still here and getting frequent driver updates :D

Great job SFFT, your driver has come a long, long way and as you have asked for no monetary compensation for your time, effort and skills,  we (the 3dfx community)are very appreciative of your work ;)

Thanks man, you deserve it ;)
