Forgot to mention: with the default driver included with Win XP it does work. I remember narrowing down the quirk to the miniport part of the driver.

Another useful clue, thanks!

I'm starting to think this have to do with SLI and the amount of memory is needed to be addressed with DirectDraw.

Normally, under W9x environment, the card use only the first VSA-100 to display desktop. I remember that with modded/new driver for windows  XP 2D VSA-100 SLI has been added at some point.

Could be a matter of bios settings?
Could you list which motherboards have problems with the modded Voodoo5 under 2k/XP?
I have tried all I could with Epox KT333 (8k3a) and Toshiba i815 (Equium 8000s) and with a AGP V5 5500 128Mb Windows 2k/XP will not load to desktop. However, on Tyan S2466, ECS RS400-A and Biostar K8T890-A9 there were no such problems. I have modded a small number of these cards for some people and maybe they can share the results they got on different motherboards.

Thank you for this important reply.
So the modded card failed to load 2k/XP desktop with VIA KT333 and intel i815 chipsets, although we can't exclude same chipsets can work on different hardware platforms.
ATi RS480 (Radeon Xpress200) and VIA K8T890 (ECS and Biostar) aren't reliable platforms to me in order to inquire further on this behaviour, because they don't offer true AGP support but a PCIoAGP instead (PCI over AGP); this must be related to the fact that a modded V5 PCI instead works w/o issues.
The AMD-760 MPX chipset of the Tyan motherboard is a good point to start.

We need to handle with all these clues:
PCI Vs AGP
Win98 Vs 2k/xp
Drivers Vs Chipsets
...

Have you any idea on what could be the reason?

With the AGP there is the issue of compatible motherboards. Under Windows 9x the card has no problems, but Under 2k/XP/2003 it will not go to desktop on some motherboards. The PCI variant has no such problem.

Hey Max_R,

Have you already red this: http://www.falconfly.de/info/readme-quantum-winnt-obsidian2pf-v5p.txt ?

Q:  When attempting to run an application, boot the computer, or
launch the Display Properties sheet, the error message "Mutual
Exclusion Error Prohibits This" come up?
A:  There are various reasons this message may come up.
1. The card was not shut down properly, and is still active.  Turn
your computer off, and then back on to resolve this error.
2. The drivers from a previous 3dfx Voodoo or Voodoo 2 card
were not properly removed.  Please follow this procedure
<link to uninstall error> to remove our drivers and any
  previous drivers.
3. Your system BIOS is not properly interpreting the PCI-to-PCI
bridge chip on the Obsidian2 200SB series of cards.  Please contact
your motherboard manufacture to get the latest BIOS.

4. There is another Voodoo2 based video card in your system from a
different manufacturer that is causing a conflict.  There can only be
one card based on this chip set.  Please remove the other card.
5. Your card is not working properly.  Return the card for a
  replacement.

---------------------------------------------------------------------

Since both X-24s act the same way, I would try to change the platform.

EDIT: From the readings here and there this error seems to occurr as soon as another application is accessing to DirectX at the same time. I would try to change the 2D X24 companion, then select another video adapter too.

EDIT2: More details about the motherboard specs?
DirectX version?
Have you installed any kind of Win98 update?

[mod off]

Hi Glide and Obi,
The original Voodoo5 6000's List is now outdated.
I don't think that Obi and maybe others 3dfx collectors would like to see TM at the top of the List.
This is not a problem of jealousy but for some 3dfx collectors, TM is not a collector.
Some people would have liked to get 1 V5 6K but their wishes have been broken because of insane prices.

Then limits have been broken.
Cards are his cards but extrem mods on rare hardware in order to get some mhz were pointless and dangerous.

Since a V5 6K is apparently dead, i don't think that people will change their mind.

Completely agree.

Thank you Amigamerlin but when I have receieved the card there is no boot, black screen when I push ON :(
I am so sad.
I can't test it.

So let's make it clear: you're saying this card is not working anymore, right?

its most like just going to be named

Club-3D Voodoo Joker

they are a small company that makes ATI cards.

http://www.club-3d.com/index.php/products.en.html

They already have
HD 7850 Royal Knights
HD 7870 XT Joker
HD 7950 Royal King
HD 7850 Royal Queen
HD 7970 Royal Ace

any "Voodoo" named card will just be a variant of an ATI chipset.

Club3D is well known company, but they have nothing to do with 3dfx, of course.

So if was just trolling, it's gone bad[8D]

I'm not sure exactly what you mean.  As far as I can tell, all rows look the same.  The photos do not come out well.  Is there something I should be looking for at the top?

The type of corruption is different for each game.

Does the top of the screen start with a corrupted row (blue or white as I can see from the pictures) or a black row? Which one come first?

I did test in single chip mode and the card still crashes.  I hope that doesn't mean there is something worse wrong with the card.

Here are some screenshots of what the crashes look like.

I do have power connected to the card.

Thanks

Does the top of the screen start with an artefacted row?

It's a common Voodoo4 4500 PCI with double density memory chip (128Mbit - 16MB per chip). Cabling is needed for the extra RAM addresses in order to recognize the whole memory amount.

Yes, that card was modded by Komponent for rottentreats. Then he sold the card to gwb on ebay some time ago. Well, now is on ebay again...

Oh, well, I'm very cool if you ask me[8D]

But nobody are obsessed by stupid scores like you.

Again, you always missed the following tests:

Fill Rate
High Polygon Count
Bump Mapping (actually not supported)
Vertex Shaders (dx8)
Point Sprites (dx8)

What you still don't understand is that jix-reggio is not necessarily interested in score, but how the bandwidth affects these results, in particularly Vertex Shaders and Point Sprites tests.

So, keep calm, nobody here is interested to race, except you.

As usually you don't miss the chance to show us your insolence.

jix-reggio is trying to make you understand that you skipped game4 test all the times; this thread lasted 16 pages but you never done a complete bench.
