I'm against pirating songs, But I'd like to say my opinion here.  Pirating is not necessarly hurting artists.  It's hurting the disc industry, because they can't follow internet technology and their sales are going down.  They evaluate and greed an artist on those discs sales.  But very soon discs will vanish. Maybe singers will create their album on a usb key.  I don't know.  It's changing right now and that can't be reverse.  Customers are using new technology and ask for more.  If the industry doesn't find a way to follow it will be more costly for an artist to create an album because of piracy and they will turn to something else to sale their songs !

Games / Voodoo5 5500 AGP freezing in games...

Well, I'd be mad too.  You lost 50% of the card. But if it was an 'ordinary card' it would be total lost.  You still have a V4 now.  Too bad we can't recover the 32 megs of the second chip.  I don't know if that was done before?

Another thing to consider,  those programmers and engineers and all others that devellopped the Voodoo's are all peoples minded to build the best new thing for next year ! Ounce it goes on the shelves for consumer, it's past.  They're already looking forward to create better again ! That's where their fun is.  They are credited for that small input they trhrow on a card. Like an optimize chip or bus, driver, cooling, features... named it!

General Hardware / best pc to buy

I forgot to say, another aspect to look at is your hard drive.  You'll get best speed with an 8 mb cache IDE sata hard drive.  I dunno if Raid hd or scsi hd are faster.

wickerman,  to finally answer your question,  if I was to buy a new pc my self,  I would buy a box with an Asus motherboard with an Athlon cpu 3500+ or more, between 1 and 4 gig of the fastest ram (take room for future use or multi tasks)no less then an ati x800 or nvidia 6800 graphic card,  onboard sound is already dolby 5.1.  wireless mouse and keyboard to be comfortalbly playing in my lazyboy,
23 inch monitor.  That would be the basics.

General Hardware / best pc to buy

I've heard of Pentium M, I didn't see the scpec yet or it's advantage, only good words is heard about it.  But now with console box that you can play online for the price of a decent graphic card...
Lag free !

I became a pc gamer because I used to spent a few hundreds $$/month in arcades.   I'm getting old now to spent hours optimizing chipsets and windows for that new game lagging...  I'd rather spent more times gaming and less fixing !  And it's costly to buy all that crap to protect your pc, new windows, new antivirus... it's making me sick...  There are nothing really new, they're just selling vow !

Maybe I'll go back in arcades, It's been a long time I haven't try them !

General Hardware / best pc to buy

Well, I'm looking for my next pc since a year, and I always found something bugging me.  This industry is treating customers like Lamas !  I was a Pentium enthusiast, but now looking forward for an amd.  Then Windows Xp is full of flaws, SP3 is coming soon... Another waste of time fixing Windows again!  Piss me off to get compatible antivirus and all extra protections.  In my opinion ; Best buy for gaming, Quality vs. Price With No Troubles = Xbox 360 or Playstation 3!  For your need to surf the Web and do some Office use ; Buy a Mac !  It never crash, virus are rare, very low extra protection needed. NO WASTE OF TIME UPDATING ! Then again, I still don't know what I'll end up with !

Games / Old GLide games and Voodoo5?
22 September 2005, 21:07:50
Yeah, I fired up Unreal 1 v226.  It's like playing a new game. It's smooth and fast. Last time I had played, it was with a p200 with 64mb ram and a V3. It was ramming any time there was lot of action so I couldn't get far.  I even tryed it with a Kyro(hercules 3d prophet 32mb) and it's ramming the hell ! I don't understand, with this card the game is at best on D3D, ramming in opengl tim, and ugly and ramming on powervr!

As I see it, you're able to start the game and to play in the config and it fails when you load a saved game[8]! I'll try a new single player game[?] !
#13
Did you try to start a new game instead of a saved game ?  Maybe I'm wrong.  I understand that you update your drivers and trying to play your saved games...  Usually you can't do that. It's like patching the game.  The saved and the restart doesn't match.

Just checking...  Oftenly, new V5 owners miss to connect the power supply to the Voodoo board...   ..."Ahem" I was one of them "ahem"...

If it's only that, you're lucky and it's a fast fix.

Voodoo4/5 Setup and tweaking / V5 pci100

Quoteyou are lucky to have a MB that will throttle ONLY the AGP port speed and not the PCI bus at the same time.

Cool!  Another reason to love ASUS mobo !
