Title: Motherboard for Voodoo 5 6000
Post by: Morfeus on 28 April 2004, 16:49:40
Recently I have bought a Voodoo 5 6000 rev.A 3700, I have tried to use it on an old motherboard with a Celeron 366 just to try but it doesn't work so I tried with a motherboard mounting a Celeron 700 or 733 now I don't remember, but nothing it doesn't want to work[:(]
What can I do? At the moment I'm waiting an Epox 8k3a+ with kt333... What do you think?will it work on this mobo?
Have you a motherboard's compatibility list for Voodoo 6000?

I only get a beep when i forgot to connect the internal power supply. I know it sounds stupid but take a look if yours is connected. :)

If it is connected right, you could have a look at the main powersupply. Does it have enough power to supply the v5 6000?

Anyways if the mainboard is in the compatibility list it should work fine. From my own experience i know that KT3 chipsets work excelent. So your epox mainboard should also work.

Could be a motherboard bios issue. You can try to go back to an earlier bios version. I had this when running my 6000 on an Asus P3B-F, up 1.006 it works fine, but with the latest bios 1.008 it wont post...

Download Attachment: (https://www.3dfxzone.it/enboard/images/icon_paperclip.gif) PCI.zip (https://www.3dfxzone.it/enboard/../public/uploaded/hanksemenec/20045701133_PCI.zip)
46.51 KB

VooDoo boot debug 101

The file that I have uploaded is PCI.EXE. Make a DOS boot disk and copy the EXE file to the disk.

Next find a non 3DFX PCI card that you can boot from, in some circunstances remove your 3DFX AGP card and set the BIOS to boot from the PCI first. After Install the AGP card back.

Boot to DOS, then execute PCI.EXE. You should see several devices, the ones you are looking for are 121Ah (3dfx). If you see the device then your card is alive and just the BIOS is nuked. If you do not see the 3DFX signature, say good bye to the card.

Why non 3DFX card , when you use flash program you want to make sure that the flash target is V5 and not PCI V3 for example.

I'll add more to this later.

Hank

"Now I'm waiting a Msi kt3 ultra2-BR"

That one is definitly going to work. if not you will have to send the card to amigamerlin or hank for testing. I hope it works though. :)

When you attached the V5 6000 to the first mainboard. Did you ckecked the Hint Chip?

Sometimes it just becomes really hot and then it's just damaged. probably that's the issue of the card's failure.

@ Hank

I think it's really cool what you are doing for the 3dfx Community, keep up the good work!!

Maybe the HiNT HB1-SE66 was already burnt out before you tried to use this 6000.

Two other compatible boards:

Asus P3B-F 1.04 (Do NOT use the newest BIOS Version, but second to newest!)

And here it comes....
Intel OR840 Workstation Mainboard / IBM IntelliStation M Pro 6868

It's got an Intel 440BX chipset and AGP 1.0!

Ah very nice Nightbird [:I] I suppose it rusn 183Mhz with ease since the Rev.A3 3400's are quite well known with that nice speed, 5.4ns Toshiba SDRAM w00t :)

BTW did you get that Rev.A2 2600 up and running as well?
