Many users wrote about this game and lack support in Windows XP environment with FastVoodoo2 3.0/3.5 XP drivers. Well, one of new features of FastVoodoo2 4.0 XP will be a better compatibility with more titles and the number of these playable includes Diablo II.

A screenshot of this follows:

Your Voodoo2 based card will have a "new life" with OpenGL game too because WichedGL driver is not necessary with FV2 4.0 XP: in most cases in fact you can use Voodoo driver bundled with the game ;)

The next Voodoo2-Windows 2k/XP driver introduces new functions for FastVoodoo2 series. For example it supports Quake3 Arena with both Voodoo driver and default driver, via WickedGL of course.

We are running several tests about it: now I report fps measurements and image quality samples which have get with this system:

- Intel Pentium 4 platform equipped with Intel chip-set (northbridge and southbridge)
- 3dfx Voodoo2 12mb in SLI setup
- MS Windows XP Pro + SP1a + MS DirectX 9b
- FastVoodoo2 4.0 XP Gold Edition beta 5

and Quake 3, without patches or updates.

After selecting Voodoo driver in video menu and using these settings

we have runned Demo01 in benchmark mode and the measured average value of fps is 39.

The related image sample (captured not in demo mode) is

Look this image at full size

Using WickedGL and with this video setup

fps avg value is 44.5 while this is the analog screenshot

Shortly, i say that the Voodoo driver for this game (unsupported by previous FastVoodoo2 releases) gives better quality for video output and a little lessening of speed that does not compromise a nice gaming.

WickedGL driver, instead, allows best performance and it's very advisable for multiplayer gamers.

Hardware target: 3dfx Voodoo2/Voodoo2 SLI systems + latest Radeon or latest Geforce.
Software target: MS Windows 2000 and Windows XP environments.

Hi guys,

we know about configuration issues regarding system with Voodoo2 cards and Radeon 9500 and above and latest Geforce FX series.

So few days ago we have put on line FastVoodoo2 3.5 XP that has solved only a part of these problems: well a new release in beta step of FV2 is ready and some testers are already trying it.

If you have a system that matches targets above please reply here and give us availability to test this beta.

Of course, we don't accept all demands because are looking for one or two testers.

Tnx for reading it.

Tips, Tricks and Patches / Unreal2.ini
10 October 2003, 12:22:15
Hi guys,

i have attached to this post a custumized Unreal2.ini file. It should improve the game compatibility with both Voodoo5 5500 card and Amigamerlin XP video driver.

Just some suggestions:

1)You have to copy Unreal2.ini file in System directory of Unreal 2.

2)Before overwriting the original Unreal2.ini making a copy of this in not a bad idea.

3)This new file supports Unreal 2 full version and not   the demo.

I ask you only to report here benefits and/or issues for further improvements.

Thank you in advance.

Download Attachment: Unreal2.zip - 4.86 KB

Bye bye
