Voodoo4/5 Setup and tweaking / PIII & V6k
05 January 2005, 15:11:23
Looks like I will have to wade through a bunch of stuff.

KT266 PRO 2x 1GHZ PIII

win98SE - 3DHQ Beta 10 - card runs for ever
wnXP - any driver - Q3ADEMO (timedemo 1, demo demo001) lock ~ 3Sec
win2k - any driver - Q3ADEMO lock ~ 3 seconds

Srverworks chipset 2x 1GHz PIII

Same result as above
V5-5500 runs ok with same drivers set

(Hint bridge might be doing something stupid, since all chips lock in the same way on 6k, checked the read pointers and command fifo registers on each VSA100 chip)

K7S5A rev 5.0 AMD XP2400+

no problems under 2k. I have to check out latest drivers.

Well it looks like a lot of work, I need YOU to check 3DHQ B10 under win98SE, the Glide source is different from win2k/xp.

Hi,

Funny thing you, have been asking about PIII. I have been trying to chase down a problem with KT266 PRO. Nothing works under 2K or XP. But when I went to Win98 everything runs stable under 3DHQ B10 driver.
Same hardware, just different OS and driver.

Q3ADemo locks in about 3 seconds, in the same place under timedemo demo001 with all XP and 2k drivers. This happens even under single chip settings.

With Win98 the demo goes all the way through, and Q3A runs over night.

I can see the command fifo is executing an AGP fetch instruction which should not exists and write pointers are right behimd the read pointers or on top. I have seen this ondition under Power PC.

Please can you verify if Win98 is stable with 3DHQ B10 driver on your rig. This is a good data point for me, since I have only KT266 MB.

The Mitsubishi GE has been done before, but 3DFX never had time to do he microcode for it :(

Well, send it to me for tune up and oil change. Let me know.

Check for FX_GLIDE_TMU_MEMSIZE registry key, it is a string value. Off is "-1" and "2" is 2MB from what I remember.

Under win2k:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\3dfxvs\Device0\Glide

Amiga should be able to help with rest of the settings, since I am getting old and forget stuff [:p].

I used to run 3DFX tools and 3DHQ tools at the same time, and 3DHQ tools would set the tex limit to 2MB when I launched the tools. After I would loos some of the textures.

See if the texture limit is set to 2MB. Tun it off.

Please, can you tell me the history of the card, where it came from?

I always use AGP6K116B.ROM

VooDoo boot debug 101

The file that I have uploaded is PCI.EXE. Make a DOS boot disk and copy the EXE file to the disk.

Next find a non 3DFX PCI card that you can boot from, in some circunstances remove your 3DFX AGP card and set the BIOS to boot from the PCI first. After Install the AGP card back.

Boot to DOS, then execute PCI.EXE. You should see several devices, the ones you are looking for are 121Ah (3dfx). If you see the device then your card is alive and just the BIOS is nuked. If you do not see the 3DFX signature, say good bye to the card.

Why non 3DFX card , when you use flash program you want to make sure that the flash target is V5 and not PCI V3 for example.

I'll add more to this later.

Well, you know where to send 6k for tune up and oil change :-P. I might have some time to look at it.

Wow,

Thank you very much. The tool works like a charm. All 4 chips on V5 6k are getting programmed :).

Thank You,

The bridge is at about 40 deg C, it sgould be fine. Thanks for the suggestion.

I just wanted to see if I can still solder. I did not have anymore V5 6000s with -54 memory, so I replaced the standard -6 with Toshiba
-54. Well, I had to redo my work a couple of times [:p]

I'll see if I can get some -5 SDRAMs next.

After adjusting all the chips mem clock speed with softice, the performance increase is linear.

Just a little project :D

V5 6000 with Toshiba -54 memory and improved heat sinkage [:p]
Heatsinks are same as aalchemy and the memory heatsink is from ? :D
Well it is a VooDoo2 heatsink.

current speed passed 193MHz just trying tests at 195MHz.
