Hello fellow 3dFx fans:),

Well, another year has passed and our Voodoo hardware is ageing, but still going strong of course!!!! [8D]

I'm just curious if anyone has "lost" their voodoo cards due to hardware failures and which sort.

This might help everyone preserve their cards better if there was something that could of been avoided.

For example, all my voodoo cards are all going strong...and I only blew up a Voodoo1 years ago because of my stupidity trying to overclock it [:o)]

Trading Zone / Voodoo 6000 Ebay scam???
09 June 2006, 15:31:42
Hi everyone,

It appears that there could be a Voodoo 6000 scam on ebay at the moment...

2 weeks ago an auction was held from 3 voodoo cards from a seller in Brazil at http://offer.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewBids&item=8817968967

This auction seemed to have failed as the winner is no longer a registered user, and it appears the auction was relisted again at http://offer.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewBids&item=8822261540

The problem is that I know the winner who has just paid US$355, but had another bidder contact him with the following information:

Quotei don't normally contact people like this, but i just found this a little bit too fishy to ignore. the reason i asked if you paid, is because both myself and a friend that bid lower than i did, received 2nd chance offers, both stating: The Winning bidder didnt have paid, so its your chance. my friend only bid up to 100$...and if you know anything about the voodoo5 6000, you know that it goes for way more than 100$, not to mention that both of the 2nd chance offers i speak of, are currently active, which means that he i saying he has 3 cards (1 for you, and 2 for the possibility of sale for me and my friend)...very unlikely. this is also the 3rd auction this guy has put up before, claiming that the previous sellers have not paid, except that the pictures for each card are different, and match previous ones up for sale by other sellers in the past that actually sold the cards for well over 2000$. if you already paid him, i would definitely ask for some proof as to it being shipped out, or the tracking # immediately. if you do contact him and ask about it, please don't mention myself or my friend, for good reasons. i find it very odd that anyone has more than 1 of these cards, as they are not common. i'm not trying to alarm you, but receiving a 2nd chance offer on this particular item, for only in the amount of 300$, seems rather odd to me, as these go for more than that easily. my friend mentioned that he may contact you as well. if he does, his id is **************. he may have other information that may interest you. i would be more than willing to pay 300$ to get the v5 6000 alone, but this just sounds a little bit too odd to me, and given the circumstances, too risky as well. i have also contacted other sellers to see if they have received 2nd chance offers as well, but no word back yet. there may be a possibility that he has more than 1, but that is very unlikely. feel free to contact me again, if you have any questions.

This person has a high feedback and is quite far down the list of winning bidders so I'm not considering the idea that he is trying to get a second chance offer.

I'm not sure it's a genuine sale.  Be warned.  Be careful, and if anyone has any information to add here that would be appreciated.

Yes!  Finally SWAT4 going with the Voodoo 5500!  I used the SFFT alpha 36 distribution now it all works great!!

First shot is from the original SWAT4 and the second shot is from the Stetchkov Syndicate expansion just released[:p]

I only ran it on my PII-400 @ 800x600, but a faster CPU would fix this!

Believe it or not, SWAT4 is based on the original Unreal Tournament engine.

So with this in mind, it may be possible to "unlock" the native glide renderer in the engine....if it is still there.

Being the busy person that I am, I had a quick go the other night, but hit several roadblocks.

First of all I replaced the section in swat4.ini which has:

[Engine.Engine]
UsePerforce=0
RenderDevice=D3DDrv.D3DRenderDevice
AudioDevice=ALAudio.ALAudioSubsystem
;AudioDevice=XboxAudio.XboxAudioSubsystem
NetworkDevice=IpDrv.TcpNetDriver
DemoRecordingDevice=Engine.DemoRecDriver
Console=Engine.Console
Language=eng
GameEngine=SwatGame.SwatGameEngine
EditorEngine=Editor.EditorEngine
GUIController=SwatGui.SwatGuiController
DefaultGame=SwatGame.SwatGameInfo
DefaultServerGame=SwatGame.SwatGameInfo
ViewportManager=WinDrv.WindowsClient
Render=Render.Render
Input=Engine.Input
Canvas=Engine.Canvas
LevelInfoClass=class'Engine.LevelInfo'
RepoClassName=SwatGame.SwatRepo

with this one taken from my unreal tournament config:

[Engine.Engine]
GameRenderDevice=GlideDrv.GlideRenderDevice
AudioDevice=Galaxy.GalaxyAudioSubsystem
NetworkDevice=IpDrv.TcpNetDriver
DemoRecordingDevice=Engine.DemoRecDriver
Console=UTMenu.UTConsole
Language=int
GameEngine=Engine.GameEngine
EditorEngine=Editor.EditorEngine
WindowedRenderDevice=SoftDrv.SoftwareRenderDevice
RenderDevice=GlideDrv.GlideRenderDevice
DefaultGame=Botpack.DeathMatchPlus
DefaultServerGame=Botpack.DeathMatchPlus
ViewportManager=WinDrv.WindowsClient
Render=Render.Render
Input=Engine.Input
Canvas=Engine.Canvas
CdPath=D:
RunCount=145

heh heh....note the glide renderer change...and then copied this over from the unrealtournament.ini file...

[GlideDrv.GlideRenderDevice]
Translucency=True
VolumetricLighting=True
ShinySurfaces=True
Coronas=True
HighDetailActors=True
DetailBias=-1.500000
RefreshRate=60Hz
DetailTextures=True
FastUglyRefresh=False
ScreenSmoothing=True
Resolution=Default
DescFlags=1

Then, I hit an error because it was missing the glide driver, so I copied the GlideDrv.dll and the GlideDrv.int over but then the core.dll complained :(

So what I'm saying is if someone else can check it out and see if I'm missing something, you could get your name up in lights!!

I'll provide any Unreal Tournament files you need.[:p]

Voodoo2 Discussions / Falcon 4.0 doesn't offer Glide
05 September 2005, 10:22:49
Hi Everyone,

I used to play Falcon 4.0 years ago under Win98 with Voodoo2 SLI no problems until my CD got scratched and that was it until I noticed it was abandonware recently, so I D/L it[:p]

Now I installed it on 2 of my machines running Windows XP, one with 2 x Voodoo2's in SLI, and the other with a Voodoo5 5500 SLI

But when I run the standalone tool "mprtest" it shows 3 drivers (software, Direct3D, and Glide), but in game it only offers Software and Direct3D.

BTW I have tried placing the glide2x.dll files in the c:\windows\system, c:\windows, and the F4 folder (because some older software doesn't see them in c:\windows\system32) but it still doesn't offer glide in game.

Help!

I just swapped a PC Chips mainboard I don't need for a Creative Monster 3D Voodoo2 8Mb card with a mate at work...

But I was ROFL to find bundled with it 2 fans bearing the name "3Dfx Cool" - obviuosly the previous owner was into a bit of O/C...but has anyone ever seen these things before????

It's just that in my 8 years of owning Voodoo 1, 2, and 5's I aint never seen this before lol!!!!!

Hi everyone,

Recently I tried to place an ATI Radeon 9250 in the same machine as a voodoo 2 running windows XP and using the fastvoodoo gold drivers.

Everything is great until I go to use the Voodoo2.  Then, either system locks up and/or the Radeon suddenly suffers severe display corruption.

I've tried it on 2 different machines and I also tried using an ATI Radeon 9200SE but the same thing happened!

Anyone know a fix to this??

Hi everyone,

Playing SWAT4 on the Voodoo 5 5500 using either Amigamerlin 3.1-R1 or Amigamerlin 3.1-R11 has problems with mainly doors, but also some other objects, having rainbow coloured flashing textures.

Anyone know if there is a fix for this?

Cheers,

Chips.

Hi everyone,

I recently downloaded MDK from www.the-underdogs.org and then downloaded the 3Dfx patch from http://www.3dgamers.com/games/mdk/downloads/ and it works no problems using a Voodoo5.

But when I went to use it on the Voodoo2, everything was going great until I went to save game (by pressing F2) then the screen went black and I have to reset the PC.

Has anyone got this going on the Voodoo2?

Hi Everyone,

I'm having trouble using a Voodoo 5 5500 MAC PCI card and a Realtek 10/100 network adapter on the same PCI Bus.

I have a PC CHIPS M590 Super Socket 7 mainboard with a SiS 5591 chipset, AMD K6-2 500Mhz, 256Mb RAM running XP home SP2 and using the latest Amigamerlin drivers.  This system has worked fine up until now with 2 Voodoo 2's in SLI and the onboard SIS6326 AGP card.

I disabled the onboard AGP and replaced the Voodoo2's with the Voodoo 5 and the system is very stable and can play all the games the Voodoo2's did (e.g. Unreal Tournament) at very good frame rates no problems.

But the system locks up everytime I try sustained network transfers, either during network gameplay or large file transfers with nothing else running.

I tried different slots and different IRQ configurations and even a different brand network card (same Realtek chipset however), but it did exactly the same thing.

I also tried powering the video card with a separate external power supply, but same problem so it's not a power supply issue.

It's as if the PCI bus is being hung when sustained network data is being sent down it, but for the life of me I can't see what the difference is between a Voodoo 5 and 2xVoodoo 2's in SLI (which works fine!!)

Also, as a side note - I can allocate an IRQ to the Voodoo 5 in the BIOS, but it doesn't make any difference in windows.  Does it need an interrupt?  WinXP shows it using an IRQ in the device manager only when I allocate it one in the BIOS!  Thats not the problem though because it still hangs the system anyway.

Another side note - I can only seem to get 16bit colour using glide in Unreal Tournament.  Anyone know more about that?

Just before I try re-installing WinXP which is a long shot, does anyone have any other ideas about the system lockup?

Hi everyone,

You may remember my problems flashing a Voodoo 5 5500 PCI card recently only to find it was DEAD!

Well, I have another one with a totally different error message.

Everytime I go to flash it with the PC BIOS it says:

"ERROR: Unknown flash EEPROM manufacturer. (Man. ID: AAH, Dev ID. CEH)"

Does anyone know about this error and what I can do to overcome the problem??

Thanks!

The AMD K6-2 500Mhz PC runnning Windows XP and using the FastVoodoo XP Gold Edition drivers was put into action again after I visited http://www.the-underdogs.org and got "Subculture" which I used to play on my old Voodoo 1 card years ago!

This game needed Windows 95 compatibility settings turned on in the shortcut properties otherwise it went really slow.

Hi there,

I will offer a reasonable amount of money to anyone who can repair a Voodoo 5 5500.

I will pay for shipping to and from your location.

Anyone experienced people here who have done that, or if you could recommend me to someone who can do it would be great.

Thanks!
