Which directX did the VSA100-chip 100% support?
I'm pretty sure it's DX5.0, but others i have spoken to, said DX6.0
If it's DX5.0! why isn't it DX6.0?
@red_martians,
DirectX 6.0 ;)
Full support for the VSA100 was DX7. Under Win9x the 1.04.00 WHQL drivers gave the VSA100 DX8 support and the 1.04.01 beta driver released by Reid a few days after 3Dfx went under gave the VSA100 improved DX8 support, but that's under Win9x.
Read about DX8 support here. http://www.falconfly.de/info/relnotes-vs-win9x-10400.htm

I don't think there were drivers that gave you DX support under Win2000 but I'm not sure.
So far as I am aware 3dfx didn't release any DX8 drivers for any of the Voodoo cards. The last 3dfx Win9x driver is a DX7 driver that runs as a DX7 driver under DX8 and later. At least the capabilities that it reports lack some mandatory DX8 features so DX8 will regard it as a lagacy DX7 driver and will work with it as a DX7 driver. It does run successfuly under DX8 and DX9. I think that the Raziel driver for Win9x is a DX8 driver. The SFFT kernel for Win2k runs as a DX8 driver although it can be run in DX7 mode if needed. A DX8 driver tends to be faster than a DX7 driver as Microsoft optimised the way they pass the data to a DX8 driver with the DX8 interface, with a lagacy DX7 driver they use the older DX7 API under DX8 and later.

You're right, the support for DirX8 in the 3dfx drivers is "lite".
A best support was given indeed by Reid under Win9x and Win2k but it was in janv and feb. 2001.
I thought that was what I said... Full support for DX7 and added support for DX8 with the 1.04.00 and 1.04.01 drivers. The link I provided above is a copy of the release notes directly from 3dfx.
Quote1. Added DirectX(tm) 8.0 support when it is available.
Under Win98se using the 3Dfx 1.04 WHQL drivers my Voodoo5 5500 AGP passed the DX8 tests.
I thought that that a card with 100% DX7.0-support should have hardware-T&L, which the VSA100 din't have!
And i didn't mean in software, but in hardware!!
But thanks for the answers

And this is why the Voodoo 5 is not a true DirX7 card...
But what is the differents between DX5 og DX6 then??
I'm a little to young to remember that?
Just curious.
Personnally I think that the Idea that a card supports features of a specific version of DirextX is a rather odd one, it seems to be looking at the problem from the wrong end, surely its the invention of new hardware solutions that drives the development of DirectX not the other way round.
