Title: When will be possible v5=64mb (under games)
Post by: osckhar on 04 December 2003, 17:47:13
Hi,

My question is the following:

A lots games need 64mb for to run. In this games I can't to play. Because, the game just detect 1 chip vsa-100 (32mb). When will be possible, under emulation software, the game detect 64mb for v5 or 128mb for v6k?
Is a dream?

Thanks
Greetings

Please name some of the games you have problems with.
As far as I know this bug is only on Win9x, on WinXP the complete memory is detected...

El poder de la v6k?
The ??? of the v6k?
My spanish sucks.

Anyways, I have never seen this issue, which games specifically do not detect the full 64mb? Also, I always thought XP was the problematic one. Which OS are you using?

For example 3DMARK2003, why only detect one chip vsa-100?

I am using WINDOWS XP!

Thank you

What does dxdiag.exe show you ?
Can you see 128MB video memory there ?
BTW, 3DMark03 is not one of the best tests for 3dfx cards...
Hell, no mad-onion benchmark after 3dmark99 is...

One thing Rolo01 ;)

When a Game needs for running:
T&L
DIRECTX 8 OR 9

I must to use the emulation software (3D-ANALYZER), for to play the game. With this software can I to emulate those?    If the game needs 64mb and directx9  for to run, in principle with my v5k or v6k, I must to can  play, no?
If the game says to me I can not to play because my vga not supports of the minimal requirement...
What is the problem?
Is possible only detects one chip vsa-100?
Is very possible I am confused... (If is yes, sorry :))

the dxdiag.exe just detects one chip = 32mb

Thanks

Which driver did you use on WinXP ?
I tried yesterday with V5-5500 and Amigamerlin 3.0, dxdiag.exe showed me 64 MB.
3D-Analyse may help in some cases, for example when a game demands T&L you can fool it with 3DA, I did this with Lord of the rings:return of the king. Says it doesnt run on V5, but with 3DA it will.
Another example is emulating pixel shaders. With that option you are able to see the nature scene in 3DMark2001 on a voodoo. Of course the pixel shaders are not emulated, you simply see nothing. But the game ( or benchmark ) thinks the graphic card is able to do it and runs.
With more complex games ( like Halo ) even 3DA will not help ( my guess, didnt try it yet ).

I am working under AMIGAMERLIN XP 3.0

I have tried my v6k and it showed me 128mb too! :)
And Why my v5k pci shows me 32mb?

the 3D-A must help me under directx 8 and 9, namely the 3d-a must fool to game!

The Sisoftwere Sandra 2003 just detect 1 chip VSA and 32 mb. Why?

I see someone else liked my quote :D
As for dxdiag, don't trust a thing it says. When I had XP, I got bored one day and figured out that the size of the RAM it reported varied depending on either my refresh rate or my resolution, I can't remember which one it was (or maybe it was both). Also, note the "VGA Compatable" marking on SiSoft - I think that's wrong too. SLI had a few issues that 3dfx never worked out...

no, depends the resolution and the color-depth
changing from 640*480 256 colors to 1600*1200 32 bits would change the number

QuoteSLI had a few issues that 3dfx never worked out...
this is not really an issue and if you are thinking about DxDiag : DXDiag does not recognize the architecture of the Voodoo5 5500 properly
