Title: Evolution for v4/5 ready!
Post by: Raziel64 on 15 May 2004, 04:17:51
Hi...
Finally before almost one month of work, I've my first driver set for v4/5 (under win9x/me) ready. It will be released this weekend (I hope).
After the release I'll be a bit out of the 3dfx scene (real life issues), but all your feedback will be good for future releases.

News in it?... well, now supports "perfectly" titles like:
- Halo (using the InSomNiaN's config file)
- NFS Underground
- Battlefield 1942
- UT 2004
- Tron 2.0 (using 3D-A)
- Pro Evolution Soccer 3
- Rise of Nations
- Call of Duty (using mesafx)
- Euro 2004
- Rayman 3
- Enclave
- Chaos Legion
- Worms3D (using mesafx)
- LOTR: Return to the King (using 3D-A)
- FIFA 2004
- Shangai Street Racer
- 18Wheels
- Star Trek Elite  Force II
- Neighbours from Hell 2
- Doom 3 (using mesafx)
- Against Rome
- Air Strike 2
- Though Trucks Modified Monster
- BloodRayne (using 3D-A)
- Syberia 2 PC
- Unreal 2

and I hope a lot more :D

Mainly, I want to say thank you very much to Amigamerlin, Hank, Daniel Borca and Osckhar.:)

Very nice, I've been waiting forever for driver updates under windows 9x, but then again, there's only so much that you can work with. It seems like all anyone ever cares about anymore is xp [:(!] Speaking of which, do you plan any such XP release?

also:
- pro evolution soccer 3
- 18 wheelers
- carzy taxi 3
- painkiller

Seguiras siendo un capo!!! // you are a great guy!!!

PS: The only thing that lacks is that manu ginobili helps much in the required victories, for go on in playoffs (game 6 and 7) please! damn lakers (in special Fisher, on game 5)

Hmm, quick question: is this based on the beta Amigamerlin 3.0 drivers that amigamerlin sent me and never followed up on? I wish he would have told me if they were, I've been messing around with that set for months, trying to get it to work.

No, in fact, this driver set is for Win98/98se/Me users.:)

Well, I guess amp_man means the buggy win98 driver that Amiga has sent months ago to some beta testers. Never got it working though.
Please tell me, is the new driver still based on DirectX-7 or is it DirectX-8 ?
Title: Evolution for v4/5 ready!
Post by: Raziel64 on 19 May 2004, 17:03:45
Well, a good mix :D
The thing is, for Dx8 and Dx9 games is necessary to use 3D-A sometimes to emulate TnL, but the results even using it, is better than other drivers sets.

Raziel I finally got HALO working! :DThe evolution drivers look like they were made for the game, my compliments! Although there is a really big problem with te drivers. I cannot control my FSAA settings anymore. I tried to install the driverset and then the tools apart of them but it still doesnt work. Is this because i have a voodoo 6000 an thereforce the 8x sample gives problems ? I like to continue using the evolution drivers, but i think this problem must be solved. Please have a look at it.

thx

I tried this driver and found it very slow, with bugs under DX8.1. Also the big textures on a V5 don't work properly. try Il2 forgotten battles training missions in high detail modes. Also try the Cube environment sample Visual C++ App in the DirectX 8.1 SDK. It produces a seriously corrupt teapot. I noticed that in The Lobby high detail test under 3dMark 2001 SE that the shadows were the wrong shape.

@SuperFurryFurryThing
The core is beta and is stayed beta. But it's very promising. It was the last core done by 3dfx employees, in feb. 2001.
Because it's the last, it offers probably the best support for DirX8 but feel free to work on it. ;)

The problem is simply in the inf.

¡Perhaps it is slow, but it is the most compatible of all! :D

I think that part of the problems, is that it appears to be a DX8 driver, and it doesn't seem to support the extended FVF Format that is enabled for DX8 drivers. I think that is the cause of the corruption, you might try running it as a DX7 driver abd seeing if the corruption problems dissapear.

"The problem" if "problem" is that people use or will use this core with the last games, so under DirX 8.1 / DirX 9.0 and because it owns more capabilities.
And since this core exists also under Win2k, it would be probably possible to adapt it under XP and this way to increase perhaps with a Voodoo Card the compatibility of the games with this OS (or XP with the games and a Voodoo Card [:p]), offering an other DirX core.
Anyway Raziel64 knows already this/my idea. ;)
We need "simply" that some people work on this core [:p], so SuperFurryFurryThing thks for your contribution present (and future). :)

Im affraid it still doesnt work. I downloaded the file and reclaced the file called 3dfxvs.inf with the new one (location was C:/Windows/INF ) I gave my computer a reboot but still no FSAA control.[:(]

Did i do something wrong or what? I will now try a reinstall of the driver maybe that will help. Ill keep in contact.

can you give me a prcise discription of what to do. I tried everything but it still doesnt work.

Well... remeber the folder created in your HDD (C:\Evolution Drivers Series). Here you must to replace the inf inf file and then make the driver reinstallation.

As you can see it works great now. I have full control over FSAA again :D thanx to you Raziel. The drivers are now .....supreme ;)I have more good news. You can also add Vietcong to supported games list it works ok. I just cant thank you enough, these are really the greatest win98 drivers. UT2003 runs flawless in 1024 4xAA and all detail on high.

Raziel, is the same _Raziel64_ from Glide64's forum (he's a moderator too ;) and helped a lot with the beta-testing :) )

http://www.emuxhaven.net/forum/index.php?showforum=9

in that forum, i'm GAB :), and yes, the  smash brothers missing textures, is a new discover... but only with SP1 to 3.
Try v0.7, and post screenshots, with the help of http://www.imageshack.us/ or directly in Glide64's forum. BYE and Good Luck!!!

Hehehehe..... Gab is right. I'm one of the older betatesters of Glide64.
Don't worry, are not the drivers... using another Glide64 version you'll check that the drivers are ok.

G'luck!.

I am playing Halo on my V5 with the Evolution 0.9 drivers on Win98.
Sometimes I recognize there are wrong textures displayed, is there any way to fix this ? Look at the inside of the ringworld...

Probably rendering errors like this core "knows".
I already saw these "problems" with other games (colors black, pink...)
I'm afraid that only a work on the core itself might help if tuning the game or using the 3dfx tools can't help.

This is a beta core probably coded in not many months and stayed beta.
