Benchmarking / FRAPS +3dfx problem
04 November 2010, 23:31:41
Fraps should work with older games as well, like Need For Speed 5. But in this game won't show anything under Windows ME. After fresh installation of Win 2000 will show for little while, than the FPS numbers are gone. Unfortunately for WIN ME there is no SFFT driver, so I cannot try.
Max Payne, Hard Truck 2, Quake 3, Rally Master, AVP I, II are ok both operating system.
In NFS5, Unreal Tournament, Wolfeinstein, Quake 3; I do not get FPS numbers from Fraps.

Benchmarking / FRAPS +3dfx problem
02 November 2010, 13:59:20
I would like to benchmark my V5 with different games, but FRAPS won't show FPS with several games. I have already tried 1.9D, 2.9, 3.2x version and same problem.
Like I cannot benchmark NFS5 under Windows ME or GTA 3 under Windows 2000/XP and even more games. I am using Amigamerlin 2.9, 3.0, and 3.1 drivers.

Does anyone experienced same problem? Any solution?

Any hope installing this driver on Windows ME?

Ok, I am successfully overvolted my second Voodoo5. The first one is dead unfortunately, because I did not have any soldering experience and I screwd it up. It is very sad, that was an very good overclockable V5.

The overvolted Voodoo5 works wonderfully, I can regulate the VSA100s voltage in any range. It can work even with as low voltage as 2,4V and I have already increased it up to 3,2V so far. Might I will increase it further on a colder day.

Here how is look an overvolted Voodoo5:
front side:

back side:

Here are the results:
3,2V-->205MHz
3,1V-->202MHz
3,0V-->200MHz
2,9V-->198MHz
2,8V-->196MHz
2,7V-->192MHz
2,6V-->189MHz
2,5V-->187MHz
2,4V-->180MHz
These are stable MHz -es, tested with 3D Marks.

Few scores with pictures:

As you can see I have also switched my Abit SA7 to Asus P4S533 motherboard. It unofficially supports DDR400 RAMs, so probably this is the fastest motherboard for 3dfx AGP systems.

Many thanks for your gide "goriath"!

How could I overvolting the NB (SIS 645DX chipset) on my Asus P4S533 motherboard. I would like to get higher FSB, because the CPU and RAMs could handle it. The NB stays cool under Zalman heatsink, so it definitely could run with higher voltage. Does anyone know voltage modification for it[:p]?

Asus P4S533 is the fastest motherboard for 3dfx AGP systems, so this question is very important. If some of you is familiar with electrician, I would even send you a motherboard to find out the way of overvolting!

"VSA100 Overclocker is the only tool that overclocks both of the Voodoo 5 5500 GPUs"

I am not sure now[8)]. I was using 3dfx tool-->overclocking tab to overclock my Voodoo5. Did I overclocked only one GPU[?]. I do not think, because there was significant performance increase in 3DMarks. But if there is one more GPU power left, I am certainly going to use VSA100 overclocker[8D].

Thank you, Great help!

Does any one know the default timings of this bios? I have tried to use manual timings, but I always get crashed screen[}:)].

So if someone could give me advice, I would appreciate that much!

The improved cooling system is just done on my Voodoo5. Lot of work, but it cools significantly better. The overclocking ability also improved, now it is stable on 199MHz.
I have also realized the back side of the VSA100 chips heats more than the front side. I still feel them for too hot, I might have to add fans on to it before overvolting.

Here how is it look now:

Before overvolting I make some improvements of V5 cooling. first I have made new heat sinks to the back side of the VSA100 GPUs.

I hope it will dissipate lot of heat!

I have run the UTbenchmark in Glide mod, 1024x768, and High graphics details:
2939 frames rendered in 48.67 seconds
Min: 37.69
Max: 75.24
Avg: 60.37 FPS
Are these numbers good?

Here few 3DMark screen shoots:

I have also installed Unreal Tournament, but not sure how to run benchmark. In which resolution? Glide, OpenGL, Direct3D?

Abit SA7
P4B 3.06@3.7GHz +AC Freezer 4
512MB Patriot DDR600
This is the best system what I could build arround V5. Later I am going to try some overclocker bios on V5, because now it is work with 1.15 bios. Memory timings are tight, so If I loosing it, than may I can go further than 192-193MHz. And finally I'll try to overvolting.

I'll be back about 2-3 week later and going to tell the results. So far without overvolting it can run 192MHz and absolutely stable. 3DMark2000: 7000+points, 3DMark2001: 4000+points.

Hello goriath,

Many thanks again for your help! I'll go to buy the necessary equipments and hopefully I can make the overvolting [8D]. I also sent you further questions about the equipments via email. I hope you got it!
