Title: Voodoo2 Glide for DOS?
Post by: AJ22 on 13 September 2005, 23:40:34
Hi,

I have a Creative Voodoo2 12MB 3D Accelerator Card and I noticed that the cd that came with the card has an .ovl Glide driver for Dos.

I was wondering if anyone knew if this driver can be in ran in Dos only operating systems. If so, what am I supposed to put inside the config and autoexec file to enable the 3d acceleration for Dos???

Thanks!

For what? Every Glide game (even very old) can be easily start in Windows (even XP).In Windows XP some games don't work in software, but greatly work in Glide.

Or you need DOS for 100% compactability with soundcard?

Well the reason why I ask is because I'm running a system that is DOS only. No Windows OS is installed. Just wondering if they have a DOS driver for the Card, can it be used in DOS?

Well, I can tell to you, TeronL, that there are many games, which just won't start with any Windows, and some, which won't start with any memory manager, except himem.sys - they don't like EMM386.EXE as example...
Voodoo 1/2 DOS driver works very well with Glide enabled DOS games - like Shadow Warrior - one of the best FPS ever. You just have to follow the instructions and download the 3dfx patch for this game - after installation, you have to copy glide files to game directory - nothing complex.
There are many Glide DOS games - Descent, Quake, Blood and other - try Google :)

SEG_Striker, with Glide they work perfect in Windows. If not in Win XP, so in Win 98. Simple fact.
For example Blood in Glide works perfect even in WinXP.
