AMD Video Cards / Quake on Lower Radeons
28 June 2006, 02:32:38
Well, I've figured out why Quake 4 has graphic problems on Radeons lower than the 9700. It's because Quake 4 uses Open GL 2.0, and the lower radeons except for the Radeon 9600 XT and pro don't use Open Gl 2.0, and the D3 engine is completly based on Open GL. That's the problem. Well, I'm trying to fix that problem because my laptop has a mobility Radeon 9000 in it, and I want to play the game while I'm away from home. I need help on this though. I can't do it on my own. I want to alter the moddified engine to use open gl lower than 2.0.Would anyone be able to help me?I only know how to compile new maps for the d3 engine, and textures. So it would be appreciated.

AMD Video Cards / Radeon 9600
31 January 2006, 21:56:25
Recently I had bought a Radeon 9600 PRO off of Ebay, saying it might be missing a capacitator. Well, I checked it, and there is a tear where something was welded on.I'm pretty sure that's the capacitor that "might" have been missing. Will I be able to use it still?Or, do I need to do something to get it to work?I'll give you a picture of it.

Near the heatsink on the right side is the tear.

Games / Quake 4

I'm guessing the only cards to be able to support Quake 4, even with patches are the Voodoo 5 series, but has anyone had any luck with this at all?

Off Topic / Nintendo at E3
18 May 2005, 03:54:44
I just saw video footage from E3, with nintendos presentation.
All I have to say is Holy crap...
Nintendo is gonna blow Microsoft right off its ass with its new systems!!Probably not PS3, probably match PS3.

2 new systems coming from Nintendo soon.
Nintendo Revolution
Nintendo GameBoy Advance Micro.
Games coming out expected to make top of charts.
Zelda The Twighlight princess
Pokemon XD
Fire Emblem
Mario Party 7
Geist
Killer 7

Nintendo right now is going to do better by next year.
Nintendo Revolution will be very successful as well.
"A completely redefined meaning of Backwords compatibility"
These words spoken from Shigeru Miyamoto creater of nintendo.
The new Revolution will be about the size of three DVD cases stacked.
Downloadable Classic games from previous nintendo consoles(Excluding GC), Wifi connection, wireless controllers, and DVD compatibility.
With ATI doing graphics for Nintendo again(Considering the fact that ATI didnt do grahpics for GC much at all}, Then this new system will be the best. It's said to be Nintendos most compact Console. And for anyone who has an idea for the Revolution, post it in Nintendos forums.

[The Revolution screens are just prototypes as of now.]

Off Topic / Xbox 360
03 May 2005, 07:19:44
Found this topic on another 3dfx board, and I decided to make one here. Why? Hell if I know. But anyways.Note-All American money.Don't know Uks, or any other money solutions.

Image Insert:

45.4 KB

Specs:

- 3 PowerPC CPUs sharing 1MB of L2 and each one has 32KB L1 and 32KB instruction cache.
- ATI R520 based custom GPU
- 40GB HDD
- 256MB RAM, memory cards (64-1024MB)
- 802.11b/g wi-fi connection
- DVD-ROM Drive
- HDTV support up to 1280i (1280x720 @60fps)

I don't beleive this.
How can this photo be out already if Microsoft promised to show the console plans off on May 12?I've seen this photo for about 3 weeks now, and I'm having a hard time to beleive this is the real deal.

1.40gb Hdd?They won't be able to do that. That would be to much money.Microsoft will try to play off the price of Xbox 360 same price as Xbox. With this added on, that's about $50-$60.

2.802.11b/g wi-fi connection-Microsoft will do this in either 2 ways.
1.They will have you buy the adapter.
2.They won't do it at all. They will just leave it wired right now. That will add on more money. for the Xbox 360.About $50.

3.3 PowerPC CPUs sharing 1MB of L2 and each one has 32KB L1 and 32KB instruction cache.-Hell no.
The value of a Power PC CPU is right now here in America(Which no point in buying a single PPCCPU if you cant use it for anything much)Is right now $300.If the power PCs are gonna be low in main processor speed, atleast 1ghr, then that's gonna be about $100-$150, and that won't work.Besides, the Xbox 360's custom CPU is most likely going to be a Cell processor like the PS3.Or, 3 Power pc cores most likely.

4.May 12th, 2005-God forbid.
They will tell their plans and start building one about a month or two.

Lets add it all up.

Xbox 360-$300.
40gb Hdd-$50.
802.11b/g wi-fi connection-$50
3 PowerPC CPUs-$150 Each,450.
Thats $850 in US.
Price is to high, won't happen.

General Hardware / ATI, Nvidia, Intel, AMD
25 April 2005, 01:13:36
I want to find out from everyone.

Do you perfer ATI, or Nvidia?

Do you perfer Intel, or AMD?

Post why as well.

My choice?
Ati, Why?Nvidia cards are mostly just updates of older cards( Same with the 9600 XT with ATI, But oh well ).Bigger selection of cards, and different types of graphic cards.

Amd, Why? Amds are cheaper, and can run as fast as a Pent 4 even though the front bus isn't as high. And plus AMDs are good with overclocking.

Wow, I haven't seen an Itanium in any servers for awhile, until I checked out HPs servers(Which cost to much so, yeah). But I want to know, what type of processor is the Intel Itanium 2?Slot one, or copperhead?

Off Topic / Next Nintendo system
26 January 2005, 02:29:15
Nintendo may be at the bottom of consoles, but soon it will rise up.The Nintendo DS has already sky rocketed over Sony PSP. And hopefully the next nintendo system will work out as well. It will be called the Nintendo ''Revolution'' or ''Nexus'' Or simply "N5". Nintendo said that there will be more online games than the gamecube, considering only 2 games go online. And controllers will be wireless, and Nintendo DS attachment will be made for the system. Im going for Nintendo, seeing that the PS3 and XBOX2 are just upgrades of the PS2 and the XBOX.

Nintendo Plans to launch this new system in 2006 or 2007.
