Title: Ati AIW rage128
Post by: agrelaphon on 24 April 2004, 20:33:39
How can I overclock it?[:I]
My brother has this card and it is really fill rate limited. I tried powerstrip, but the mem clock bar stays greyed out, while the chip clock is @82MHz[xx(]. Mem chips could go as far as 125MHz (8ns)[xx(][xx(]

Thanks Nightbird, I didn't expect anything better from ampman[:X]  anyway. If my bro wanted to buy a new card he'd do so. Just wants to play a couple of OLD GAMES decently[8)]

Nightbird, it was a joke, I guess it was lost...wow, and all these other wonderful answers that everyone else seems to be coming up with are so much more helpful (http://my.fit.edu/~mmichael/Smileys/b3deyeroll.gif) Also, I didn't mean go to the full extreme of a 9800 pro, something more like a geforce 2 or even a voodoo 3/4/5 would easily own a rage any day.

In all likeliness, the mem and gpu speeds are locked on this card, like on the voodoo 3/4/5. And since the GPU really isn't very good to begin with, overclocking it would be rather useless. If you do really want to OC it, I would probably yank off an old Pentium cooler (a good quality one, hopefully), and overclock both the GPU and mem (I assume this has no cooling to begin with). Since the card itself really wouldn't be much of a loss (hey, it's the truth), just OC it until you get good enough performance.

You can try other overclocking programs, such as RivaTuner (http://www.guru3d.com/rivatuner/) (side-note: lmfao, rage3d tweak doesn't support rage-series cards[:0], it only lists radeons, RivaTuner doesn't say what it supports), but I'm inclined to believe the two are locked.

A joke ?? [:p]
An advice : avoid these "answers-jokes" since this is rather "inopportune" and useless for Our Member, you don't know how people can react to your jokes...
Thks

Edit : thks for your second answer

Thanks Nightbird:D, although the card's clock may be locked by the bios, it's allways a good thing to play around with an old card[8)]

This is also possible under DOS in real mode to overclock separately the frequency of the chip Rage 128 and the frequency of the SDRAM memory. ;)

ps : please, be careful with all the utilities of course...
