Title: ini and inf conflict
Post by: stargate on 20 October 2005, 15:20:28
Good Day

I have read the topics concerning this matter but still have a problem.

The computer had win xp and fast gold installed previously. However, we had a hard drive go bad and had to replce it.

We reinstalled win xp with no problems. When we tried to reinstall fast gold on this clean install, we get the error:

"Conflicting inf and ini files:[oxd]"
"FAILURE: The data is invalid."

We have tried everything in the listed topics, but we keep getting the      same msg.

Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Good Day

I have solved the problem. I hope this will help others.

The computer is 7 yrs old.  The bios had been tinkered with many times when using win 98.
I reset the bios defaults and the fast voodoo drivers installed fine.

However, eventhough fast voodoo shows up under "sound, video, and game controllers", i still get a "splat" under "other - multimedia video controller". Every time i boot there is a "new hardware found" item and it wants to install.

I have "disabled" the item and everything is fine. However it is annoying to see the "splat" under "device manager".

Any other ideas would be appreciated.

Thanks to everyone's input on this matter.
