Would like to try the tools, but unfortunately the installer doesn't support a german OS....

The most powerful cooler fitting on the V5 is the Titan TTC-CUV2AB. I've modded my card with two of those. I've also added heatsinks to the back of the card, twice the size used in the guide, with a narrowed base. RAM heatsinks are also in place, while I did not bother with the clock generator. The card runs 183 MHz stable, even in 40° C summer under maximum load. No artifacts whatsoever.

Well, the link to the drivers is on page 3 in this thread, but I'll repeat it anyway: https://www.3dfxzone.it/news/reader.php?objid=579

The card allows Glide games to run in hardware. No wrappers, no less well supported (on the early games) alternative video mode. The age does not matter, the games I run on it are equally old. And the modern games are being handled by the Radeon. As long as I have a PCI slot in my PC and as long as I have drivers for my Obsidian, it's going to stay.

Your card should actually work well under XP, with the drivers found in this thread.

Voodoo2 Setup and tweaking / voodoo2 and dx9

I wouldn't want my V2 to handle D3D nowadays. It sits in my PC to keep Glide support. D3D and OGL are being handled by my Radeon.

Useless indeed, unless maybe for very early DOS Glide games. Under Windows the V5 is faster and can do D3D, OGL and Glide just fine. Not to mention that it can go higher than 1024x768 in all modes. Oh, and did I mention screen refresh above 85 Hz maximum yet ?

Correct.
And I have the X-24, since I had only one PCI slot free and wanted SLI. Plus, it's slightly faster than regular SLI :)
#8
That already did it. There is no message. Reboot to be sure and all should be go.

The Mercury is 8 V2 in SLI. But as already said, this requires modifikation on the hardware level, nothing a mere driver can do.
#10
That won't work. The VSA 100 chips can only adress a maximum of 64 MB per chip, AFAIK. So the only thing that might work, is getting the V5 to 128 MB total.

With PCI Express the death of the V2 will eventually come anyway. Sad but true.

My PC simply freezes or reboots when I exit Unreal Gold. I can however use ALT TAB and then terminate it with the taskmanager.

Voodoo2 Setup and tweaking / 60 Hz and other things

Thanks :)
I'll try 100, since that is what I usually use.

Edit: Does not work. Not the registry files, not the variable set. Not at 100, 85 or 75. I'm stuck at 60. Maybe the new files don't support it.

Voodoo2 Setup and tweaking / 60 Hz and other things

So my Obsidian finally works, thanks to the great work of Koolsmoky. Yet some questions remain.

1. The refresh rate in Glide is stuck at 60 Hz, changing it in the V2 control panel is impossible. Is there a third party tool, that might allow changing the V2 refresh rate under Windows 2000 ? I was thinking Vcontrol, but that doesn't even recognize my Obsidian, just says unsupported 3dfx device.

2. The V2 control panel in general. Doesn't see my SLI config, so doesn't offer configuration options for 1024x768. SLI works fine however, games run at 1024x768.

Or try to dig up an Obsidian 2, which has a TV-out itself :)
