Title: DOS Glide Guide? [V5 5500]
Post by: H-street on 27 May 2008, 20:48:09
I finally got my retro Rig setup how i want it but i feel i might have made a bit of a mistake in that i am having a hard time getting some old DOS glide games working with my Voodoo5 5500 PCI..

my Rig

AMD3400+
Voodoo5 5500 PCI MAC DVI w/ lastest reference drivers and custom heatsinks
160Gb HDD
Soundblast Audigy 1
640Mb DDR1
Win98SE

when i run DOS games (eg Tombraider1) i get a SLI looking screen corruption in that every other line is an odd color.. but no actual picture of any sorts or sound.. Tombraider will run with the nonGlide exe..

I don't even get the usual Glide 3dfx splash screen when glide is initialized..

This is for both the Tombraider glide and the MDK GLIDE

i was hoping someone had a link to a guide on how to get these older DOS games working (these 2 are the only ones i am worried about right now) with the voodoo5. These 2 games will work fine on my Voodoo2 SLI rig but i was hoping to just have 1 central Retro Rig..

the other option might be just to put my Orchid Voodoo1 in the machine but then that'd kindof force me into a VGA setup (and i kindof like the DVI out on the Voodoo5) and i don't really want to deal with any conflicts between it and the V5

other than that i've finally got my entire game library installed on the machine (80+ games) and just going through and trying to find all the patches i can for those older games.

Have you tried running any dos Glide with only one GPU in operation?

I'd imagine you would have to fire up these dos glide games with some bat file setting up the environment.

You can install your voodoo 1 or 2 card having a dedicated screen for it that way you could keep your VoodooMAC DVI output. Essentially you'd be running two screens.

I've got a Dell UltraSharp Widescreen LCD with both DVI and D-Sub 15 input, so all I would do is connect both up and when running a voodoo1 or 2 card, I would switch to VGA on the front of my monitor.

This is probably the realistic solution, you could spend hours configuring a bat file to work properly if even it could, which I doubt. And it be for each dos game too. brrrrrrr! [V]

V5 is having atrocious game compatibility with early Glide games. Some games only run on V1/2 hardware. Do what trigger suggested ;-)
