Post by: skinnie on 06 May 2006, 16:43:46
Hi ppl,I'm buying a fic va503+ mobo for my loved pentium mmx200,and I think my voodoo 2 SLi can't fit here so I think, buying a voodoo 3 3000 agp...Will I loss fps in game or will I earn?

With your mmx200 I don't think it will make any difference

Voodoo2 in SLI is somewhere between V3 3000 and V3 3500 in fillrate. That means that a V3 3000 a little bit overclocked will do better than V2 SLI.

Yeah. But the V3 has some advantages like more VRAM, a working 2D part and higher resulutions in 3D mode (up to 1600x1200x16). And SLI isn't twice as fast as a single V2 ... so the fillrate difference is just theoretical. The V3 always works at max where SLI can lack of efficiency.

My V3 worked AWESOME in my old MMX233 back in the day......  I do believe that I had one of the FIC motherboards configured for an MMX233 chip way back when by addinf a resistor across two jumper pins to "program" the voltage controller to the correct voltage and it worked SWEET.  let me know if you want me to go back over my notes and find it for you.  if you have a 233MMX chip just lying around (like i did then), it would DEFINATELY give you a boost in speed in the graphics too.

I still got a 233MMX lying around. Awesome little chip.

my mmx200 was overclocked in my pcchips@233 but I expect to overclock it to 200 (2x100) or 250...with this board..that was the best AT motherboard to buy back in 98 :)
I will cut my cooler and my second voodoo 2 will fit :)

Greetings,
I see you all using P MMX CPU for 3dfx, is it has some special effect that work better with 3dfx? Why not PII or PIII CPU since those are cheap now?
please forgive me if this is a dumb question.
Thank you!

I just use it because I had it..and  I don't want to spend money on another system...and  i think p2 is crappy...and here in portugal building a pentium 3 decent system costs as much as building for example a +- athlon 1XXX+ system..
For a pentium MMX @2.5x100 this performs really really well..Even my friends that say dfx is crapp, your pentium is a peace of junk..were magnified when theyu played ut goty..that game run really really good

only a PIII would give him an extra instruction set for SOME games to use..... speed and ram helps, but for the games he will be playing, a 200MMX at 250Mhz will be sweet.
