Title: Old System
Post by: NeoRAGERx on 24 November 2004, 16:36:21
Ok so i got my P166MMX out of the closet and put a V2 [12MB] in it to catch up the good ol' times (Quake, HL, SiN) and it runs okay but i have some minor probs:

When in the game and on screen are alot of ppl or cars or anything that is in the game the FPS drops and is kinda annoiyng, and the sound stutters when i shoot a box or something when the bits fall, could this be this i have a 3D sound card and the sound might be 3D ?

And what might be the ideal V2 settings for this system (the control panel tab) or registry tweaks, i'm willing to try anything to make it run well. Thanks in advance...

the matter is the cpu..too low frequence..try to overclock it to 200 mhz and keep in mind that you should have not less than 128 megs of ram to play.. maybe, the sound is buggy also because your audio card is isa.. if is it so, try to find a sound blaster 128 or greater..that's all..

Hmm...then i guess i should stick with it as is...overcloking is not posssible on this pc and the soundcard is not isa...and i have solved the prob by choosing standard accel in multimedia settings...and the pc has 96mb ram...and i don't wanna search more ram :D thanks anyway.

I had a Voodoo2 in 166MHz, 200MHz and 233MHz MMX systems and the Voodoo2 ran well on the 200HMz system but best on the 233HMz system. I agree it's the CPU that's slowing your FPS. If you can find a 233MHz CPU on Ebay you will probably fix most of your speed problems. BTW, what primary video card are you running? If it's a slow card that will effect the game too since that card is handling the 2D parts of the game. You should be running at least a 4Mb primary card. I was running a 4Mb Diamond Viper 330 with that old system because my 2Mb Trident card wasn't good enough.
