Title: ATI Radeon 9250 + Voodoo2 = Display corruption!
Post by: Chips on 18 July 2005, 04:52:29
Hi everyone,

Recently I tried to place an ATI Radeon 9250 in the same machine as a voodoo 2 running windows XP and using the fastvoodoo gold drivers.

Everything is great until I go to use the Voodoo2.  Then, either system locks up and/or the Radeon suddenly suffers severe display corruption.

I've tried it on 2 different machines and I also tried using an ATI Radeon 9200SE but the same thing happened!

Anyone know a fix to this??

Yikes, I think I found the fix - will try it later sometime.

Aparently there is a special set of glide files requried for ATI cards at http://www.shifter.sk/helppage/default_fix.htm#Glide2x:)

Now if only I could find out why I am getting "VPU recover" messages from my Radeon 9250 when it's on my Jetway Super Socket 7 mobo....[B)]

try setting the apg speed to 4x (or even 2x,1x or disabled),make sure fastwrites are off (they should be off,I dont think your mobo supports them),and install the latest hyperion drivers..

Thanks for that...

Yes I have no problems running the Radeon cards in the VIA chipset, it's the ALI chipset that does it[:(]

I have even tried a friend's ALI chipset mobo - same problem.  Turned AGP to 1x no luck and also the catalyst drivers turn fast write off anyway.

I tried the radeon glide drivers last night and it fixed the display corruption problems!:)

I also noticed that there is an equivalent set of Geforce glide drivers, however when I tried them on my Geforce2 system I got errors so I rolled it back to Fastvoodoo 4.0 XP Gold and it was fine again.  Oh well.

As for the Radeon "VPU Recover" problem - My advise is to never put a Radeon 92XX family card in an ALI SS7 chipset - I've removed it and put it in the VIA instead:)
