Title: Can the Voodoo 5-5500 MAC (PCI/DVI) work on a PC?
Post by: Chips on 20 May 2005, 08:56:15
Hi there,

I have spotted a Voodoo5 5500 PCI card for the MAC for sale, but I don't have (and dont want) a MAC.

Do the XP drivers on this site work with this card?

Cheers,

Chips.

First you have to flash a new Bios to the card.
This is quite easy, a bios with DVI enabled can be downloaded at http://welcome.to/3dfxbios
After that the XP drivers work fine.

Sweet!  Thanks.

This means I can move my SLI Voodoo2 cards into my AMD K6-2 550 with the geforceMX 400 and shove this card into my M590 (disabline onboard AGP of course!)

OK, but can I flash it on my PC or do I need to do the flash on a MAC or an EEPROM programmer?  i.e.  will the PC still be able to talk to the PCI card with the MAC bios?[8]

Thanks again!

Yes, you can flash it in a normal PC.
I did this to a MAC V4-4500 and it worked without problems.
Maybe you have to try several times when then flashing program reports something like "No 3dfx card found".

You will also need another video card to be running to see anything to flash......  the onboard one should do nicely!  disable it AFTER flashing......

Thanks for all the help guys.

I'm going to have some fun I think because my M590's onboard AGP is automatically disabled when you add a PCI card:D

Thats OK, I got 3 other desktops here.

I'll post back here when it's done....first I've got to get the Voodoo5 lol[8D]

Hmmm, I just purchased 2 PCI MAC versions of the Voodoo5 5500.

The first was located in the US at http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=5200032154 which was totalled US$66 including shipping.

But the other one located in my home country of Australia at http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=5199063096 was a huge US$108 including shipping!

Go figure!

Anyway, both my brother and I have one of these legendery pieces of hardware (Man, I always wanted one of these)

I'll post back here once I am done flashing the BIOS with info/benchmarks and screenies of some of my favourite games.:)

OK, I got the card but I got a big problem trying to flash it.  Seems that the program keeps reporting "ERROR: No 3dfx banshee or voodoo 3 card found" - similar to what you said.  How many times do you have to retry?  I spent hours trying different things. I'm using flash utility 2.14 - maybe I should try the older version??

Does the mainboard chipset matter?  Does it matter what PCI slot I put the card in?  I'm wondering what I'm doing wrong here!

Can you help me out??[:(]

I sure did >: )

Anyhow, thanks!  I didn't know someone made nice ones with logos.  Was just using some others that turned up on google.

Now if I could just get my DVI working as a secondary monitor properly.  Don't suppose you have any random guesses to another post that i've been hoping a response on.
