Hello,

I have a Voodoo 5 AGP that the images appear "bleached" or very white. I tried darking my monitor but it didn't help much. It makes it very hard to read some text sometimes. Is the card burned out?

The card was fine so far as I as I could tell but I loaned it out to a friend when I upgraded my main video card. I suspect it was overclocked.

Any ideas what is causing the bleached out effect?

Thanks,

Uwe

Thanks Trigger. I finally gave up on Win98SE and installed WinXP Pro. I installed the Amigamerlin 3.1 drivers and replaced the glide2.dll and glide3.dll and anpther file to older version per an old post. After that I *still* had graphic anomlies. I tried V_cntrl, no luck. I tried going into regedit to limit my mem texture to 2MB by setting it to 2...it helped but I still had small anomlies pop up. I change the MEM testure to 0. It worked like a charm. The FPS are still lower than I like but I'll tinker with the enviromentals to see if I can increase them.

Hopefull I'll be able to get them high enough to allow me to work on a mod for RB3D. Everyone always talked about the little green men running across NML in RBII which was taken out in RB3D. I have them working but with the Voodoo2 I can only get 20-30 men per brigade and still have acceptable frame rates. With the Voodoo5 I'm hoping for 100-150 at least. Since two brigades can attack one enemy brigade there would be up to 450 soldiers milling about ant that would put a significant strain on the V5.

Here is the veiw with the V2

Hi,

I have a V5 5500 PCI card that I flashed from MAC to PC. The card works great except for glide games. I have tried playing RB3D and NFS3. All that happens when I start glide games is a CTD.

My OS is Windows 98SE. Initially I tried different drivers because I know there is an issue with glide2.dll with newer drivers not play RB3D. I've even tried old original 3dfx drivers to no avail. Next I thought maybe I screwed the card up flashing it. I put in my V5 5500 AGP that is washed out (I knew there was a reason I saved it) and got the same results. I have tried altering the screen resolution and the bpp from 16 to 32. Nothing on glide games.

Any other suggestions?

I realize glide games are old and passe but some of them sure were fun. I was just taking a shot here hoping someone might still be playing these games and can help.

Thanks,

Uwe

Voodoo4/5 Discussions / Mac to PC Voodoo 5 PCI

Thanks Rolo1,

I was hoping someone would be able to confirm that for me. The instructions for Flash.Exe says for Windows XP you have to be in DOS or 9X compatibility mode...so I was thinking of doing that but if you say that you can't flash it in either of those then I need to format a hhd to a 98SE OS in order to get a DOS prompt that I can flash from. I know I have to DELPART the partition to format a hdd with XP on it.

Thank you Glide,

Will I need the Flash.exe file to update the bios? I believe I understand the risks involved which is why I am asking all these questions before I do anything. Anyway, I have five computers and only two people in my house so I can risk one of them to update the video card. I think I'll try and do it on my K6-III+ as its the slowest one I have by far. If it get hosed...oh well...it will be the first time I have lost a piece of hardware from updating the bios or overclocking.

Thanks,

Uwe

I recently acquired a Mac Voodoo 5 PCI card. I would like to flash the V5 to a PC card. However, I want to keep my current AGP card in my system too. Can I simply stick the Mac Voodoo 5 card in one of my computer's PCI slots while my GeForce4 Ti 4200 remains in the AGP slot? Can both cards be in the computer when I flash the V5 bios? I searched around but I cannot find anything that addresses this.

I want to connect both video cards to this box http://www.cablewholesale.com/popupspecs/40h1-03602.htm
and switch whenever I want to use a different card.

Thanks,

Uwe
