Is there a way to accelerate that ugly windows screensavers using the 3d acceleration provided by voodoo3 (maybe replacing the opengl32 driver on windows/system directory by any other?)

ty! :)

Games / Soul Reaver 2 × voodoo2
10 January 2005, 17:25:29
I'm trying to play Soul Reaver II with my voodoo2 SLI (12mb each), w/ no success... When I choose the card, the 'resolution' drop-down menu shows no Optins. Weirdly, for my SiS 530 onboard card, it shows not only the resolutions, but both 32-bit and 16-bit depth. I guess that voodoo2's have no problem with 16-bit depth, so wouldn't it rather work with Soul Reaver 2?..
Note: Soul Reaver 1 worked fine with d3d voodoo2.

My setup: k6-2 550, 64Mb ram, 2 v2 12Mb in sli (mismatched), onboard SiS530  w/2mb, fastvoodoo2 4.6 for win9X/me, on a Windows 98se system.

Through my experiences with one Diamond and other Genius v2 cards, plugged in SLI (i've done a bigger SLI cable for linking both cards, cause diamond's SLI connector is badly posed into the card -- just cut from diskette flat cable and inverted the center six or four wires), I realised something interesting.

In general, what you would expect of the output, is to plug your 2d card onto the nearer v2 through the pass-thru cable, and then plug in one voodoo to the other, and the last v2 get's the monitor's cable. So you play Soul Reaver, GTA2, and such D3D-mode games, with no problem. Even the DXdiag tests (until dx8.1) are shown with no problem, and you really get the 1024x768 res on the games (proving that the SLI is working).

But, then, install Quake 2, and get a pretty black screen... although you hear everything into the game... What to do? Panic?.. No... Just plug your monitor to the first v2 card, and you'll see the game there, running at 1024x768... That seems to prove that the output of SLI will not be made on the last card... But perhaps both at the same time in some circumstances (that for sure is not that the Quake2's minigl drivers offer). The only weird Thing that I didn't notice in any other games is a 'parity' latency... Looks like 'even lines' are 'faster' than the odd ones... But this may be due to frequency differences between the two mismatched v2 cards I own... Although in every other (D3D) games I played, not even in hard screen consuming times I've noticed such 'shady' motion.

Have anyone put quake2 to work with the OpenGL (not 3dfxgl) drivers to work? It seems to prefer my SiS530 board than the voodoo2 adapter...

I can't figure out why NEVER that opengl32.dll driver work for me with any games... not even wickedGL do...

I am re-posting this, in a more clear area (posted it were it wouldnt be very fair) and now opened a topic. Here's the issue:

I am using two voodoo2's mismatched in SLI, win98se, fastvoodoo 4.6, w/ a k6/2 550, 64MbRAM; and it works fine for D3D games (mech warrior 3, gta2, soul reaver 1, etc). The only game it worked (with some trouble) using drivers different from D3D, was Quake2, that I realised that only one of the v2 cards does the video output for the game (the other keeps black screen) -- figure out why...

Then, in any game I try to use the MesaFX or OpenGL drivers, I have always no success... Using WickedGL in quake2, I can achieve even a lockup on my system; GTA2 did not work with either. And mesaFX's drivers don't make games go (I followed carefully the installation steps, of copying fxmemmap and glide3x to windows/system dir (win98se) and opengl32.dll from MesaFX root dir to the game's root dir... The GL driver is simply somewhat unable to start... it treats like if I have no 3d card in my system. But why, then, d3d games work as well (and gives good fps)?..

Also, I was trying to run Soul Reaver 2 with my voodoo2, anyone has a successfull try w/ a voodoo2?.. When I get to setup SR2, when I choose fastvoodoo2 adapter, no screen resolution appears, then even if I change it into the registry, it's reset to zero, and when I enter the game, the mouse cursor disappears (while I can see the desktop), the game's sound play fine (like the game was a goot fps rate), and I can even close the game, showing back the mouse cursor and returning control over the desktop.

Thanks in advance.
