Title: GTA:VC V2
Post by: kekit on 04 January 2005, 01:48:10
you might beable to run GTA:VC on V2 in windows 98. adding mesafx to the gtavc dir and make a shortcut with "gtavc.exe -opengl" i dont know if it will work since i dont have GTA:VC, but i have ran it in opengl on a friends GF:FX.

Wow I never knew that VC had a opengl engine, I will try right away.
Can somebody tell me how to run freedom fighters with a V2? If it works with V2 I will post some pics. If Gta:VC has opengl GTA3 has opengl too (same engine). Letts hope it works.

I have tried GTA3 with the Voodoo2 its kinda slow now because of the large textures, if I am able to decrease the size I will post some pics with framerate. It works with XP(w2K) and win98se.
Here it is:

With these settings it is playable

Well, I think there should be a faq about games, that need work around to be playable on 3dfx hardware. And I mean all voodoo's!!!!!!!!!! Perhaps something extra for 3dfxzone.it/falconfly I dunno it's just an idea. Ok I will post the specs later. I'm still not satisfied with the current state in which the game runs.

Do you think that a V3 would be capable of running it on OpenGl mode with the MesaFx6.2?
Title: GTA:VC V2
Post by: kekit on 05 January 2005, 02:53:34
it might, just depends on whether it wants too [:p]

I used a cracked version of the game, cause the music cd gets kinda hot. Anyway the version of the game was 1.0. Ofcourse you can play the game with the V3 no problem, or there must be a strange thing wrong somewhere. Just use mesaFX and make a shortcut of GTA3.exe with the commandline ' -opengl.'  And then the game will run although I use some other tweak programs to make it run resionable on my V2. I think the V3 would be better at running the game because of the texture memory and the clockspeed. Can someone with a V3 3500 test it?

how do you really know that it is running on OpenGl???
Title: GTA:VC V2
Post by: ps47 on 05 January 2005, 18:28:14
..if hes running the game on a voodoo2 card under xp,the game must run under opengl,as voodoo2 has no d3d under xp..

Post by: Dautonico on 05 January 2005, 18:32:53
Well i was triyng GTA:VC, but now im gonna try the original one under Xp, thanks everybody for giviming some hope on this one...

And under directx it would never run very stable. A voodoo2 is a directx 5.0 card !!!!

Well i here are my spec i hope u can help me out on this one
Sempron 2.2+
MB M825G
256Mb DDR 333
Voodoo 3 3000 PCI
Driver : SFFT 21
MesaFx: 6.2
Game : GTA 3
I just instaled the game, soh i copied the glide3x.dll from the mesa directory into my Winxp system32 directory, then i copied the opengl32.dll from mesa and put on the same directory as the exe from GTA 3, send it to the desktop as a link, and add the -opengl after the line, soh it looks like this "F:\Jogos\Pc's\GTA\GTA3\GTA3FIX\gta3.exe -opengl" So please what is that im making wrong?

some self-experience:
I've tried "Counter Strike: Condition Zero", i've used MESAFX ,no 3DFX logo on screen, but on the renderor option, it says it's using OpenGL..
so showing the 3DFX logo or not is not the key different between OGL and D3D as far as i can tell
so maybe you are already running GTA in OpenGL mode..

Well... did you try it on your V3??? because i just cant get it to wokr.... daam i was so happy with this chance...

Post by: perer on 06 January 2005, 18:12:18
I don't think the V3 will have enough power to play San Andreas. I think a Voodoo5 will nearly be able to do the trick. I suppose that this time Rockstar won't make a cheap port from the PS2.
Title: GTA:VC V2
Post by: Dautonico on 06 January 2005, 18:21:36
Only a v5 will be capable of playing San Andreas.. as it is alreadywith the Need Underground... in here no way of working with GTa3...

Post by: ggab on 07 January 2005, 04:22:52
maybe, offtopic, but

now, with this -opengl command, is it possible to play *without the frezze problem* Gta3 and/or GtaVC in a banshee and a v3?

PS: @Dautonico: with a v4 NFSU is playable too (640*480 and defaults details) :)
Title: GTA:VC V2
Post by: kekit on 07 January 2005, 09:30:26
its not using d3d so, in theory, it shouldnt crash.
Title: GTA:VC V2
Post by: perer on 07 January 2005, 09:37:29
Well I don't now about the banshee, I am running with a V2 SLI and it barely runs, I don't think a Banshee can run it at a decent speed. The V3 would be able to run it anytime.

It dont work,(
i have i810 and creative voodoo2 12mb, i copied opengl32.dll(mesa) to gta dir, and made shortcup "gta.exe -opengl", but it starts i810 in D3D
Title: GTA:VC V2
Post by: perer on 26 May 2005, 21:25:46
It would have been useless anyway, the V2 SLI is too slow in D3D.

i try warcraft III.exe -opengl, and it works

Reduce the size of your desktop, I have seen this problem with a 16 Meg V3 with GTA3, it loads in a 640 * 480 pixel destop resolution.

Thanks alot! (I never thought i'd be thanking a furry)

now it just freezes completely after a moment, but it's a step forward. and no, GTA3 never had an opengl renderer at all, so all this -opengl is false.

man, there needs to be a faq wiki with these things, google was quite crap for me in solving this issue

i have the same problem, but lowering the creen resolution not help....do you have another idea???

Imho, when i tried GTA3 VC (with a V3), it needeed really 16 mo to start (the only solution was to low the desktop to 640*480) then with a Voodoo 3 (and under Win9x), the game ran only with an Intel Cpu (and the first driver for DirX 6 - 1.03 -)

maybe the problrm is this: I can't add -opengl to shortcut, I always get message "........./gta3.exe -opengl" doesn't exist....why i get that message....

man... if you have a shortcut you dont add the parameter inside " " you have to add them after " "

How did you get GTA3 to run? I have STB Voodoo 2 SLI with fastvoodoo drivers. Added MesaFX opengl32.dll to gta3 folder and added a .bat file with "gta3.exe -opengl" and still I get 12mb error.
Dxdiag shows 16 mb on graphics 2. all the other games too.
It's GTA3 1.0, do I need to get an updated version of gta to run opengl?
