Title: MesaFX should it work with CoD?
Post by: perer on 27 March 2004, 16:44:38
Hi I was trying to run CoD with my v2 SLI cards.
But I gives me the  Can't open Opengl subsystem.
I  think that it is because it wants to set it to 32bit, but V2 has none, is it possible to set it to 16bit?

Ps I am running the FV4,5 drivers. ( For the FV team: no probs with it till now, even solved some probs with some games).

Even if you can set up COD in 16 bits, the game uses S3TC, no supported by the pre-Napalm so this is not possible for now with a V2, a Banshee or a Voodoo3.

Can't you disable s3tc?
I thought I could set it in the graphics menu in CoD.
But stil it uses 32bit with 16 bit textures.
Why did they do that? I know 16 bit gives probs, but what about the low-end users. There has to be a way to force it to 16 bit.

Tnx for report but I suggest to insert it (and others) in related topic - http://www.3dfxzone.it/enboard/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=979 - so we can better read feedbacks.

In the config. file, you can probably set up the game in 16 bits but as said the problem is S3TC and you can't disable it.
The low-end users ? same fight for the owners of "old" gfx cards...
Some or many people would/will say "Upgrade".
You can't start the last games or even older games with a S3 Trio, right ? and this is almost unbelievable that a Banshee started UT2004 in D3D but if the programers allow it in the game, some things will be still able if the Card is enough powerful and if you accept "some" limitations. [:p]
But sooner or later... and you will keep your "old" card for "old" games. ;)
But for now, what a Voodoo Card is always able to do is probably for some people unbelievable  :)
