Title: ThunderGL
Post by: Geri on 11 November 2006, 03:08:36
PROJECT DISCONTINUED

The sucessor called TitaniumGL.

-TitaniumGL needs stronger cpu.
-TitaniumGL's game compatibility with the great old opengl games is mutch lower than other 3dfx card opengl drivers, it is probably much slower than them.
-OpenGL version number is 1.3, and i am not plan to expand it currently.
-ALL Donations are welcome. Serious, becouse of the huge time what a full opengl implementation needs to be created. Paypal accepted, can be accesed on http://legendgrafix.tk
-TitaniumGL is freeware.

Ok i haved absolute no time for it.
Now i continue the developing of it.

So, the current state: 15% of programs are working.
40% performance drop.

Just a stupid question: What about catching up the work on already "mature" DLLs? MesaFX shows up as OGL 1.2 compatible ... so why don't you take and tune it? If all skilled programmers work together, we'd get more compatible drivers than those made only by one person. :)

You have good questions :P :D
(dont forget MesaFX is very very different than this one. Its only for 3dfx cards. This is not, this is for all cards, and arent using vendorspecific stuffs)

great job Geri!
with ThunderGL quake4 1.3 works on my voodoo5:)
unfortunately many texture are black and sometimes it freezes[:(]

(//../public/uploaded/benna/20061227125916_error.JPG)
these errors probably are mesafx fault
can I use ThunderGL with mesafx (doom3 version) dll? please explain how to do it
Title: ThunderGL
Post by: Geri on 02 January 2007, 22:57:32
hmm... You can combinate it with mesa, if you replace the windows/system32/opengl32.dll with the mesa's opengl32.dll. Then the ThunderGL will connect to the Mesa.
Quake4 runs also without Tgl, if you using the mesa's doom3 specific opengl32.dll.
Title: ThunderGL
Post by: Rolo01 on 03 January 2007, 12:44:34
Yes, but only Quake4 demo runs, the full version does not run with D3-MesaFX.
Title: ThunderGL
Post by: benna on 07 January 2007, 12:38:08
i tried to replace opengl32.dll with mesafx but every time i start a game windows replace my file with the original one[:(]
Title: ThunderGL
Post by: Geri on 09 January 2007, 02:12:01
benna: search for all opengl32.dll-s in windows directory, make a secure copy, then simply delete them at the same time, and windows will be unable to respawn them.

Title: ThunderGL
Post by: Geri on 11 January 2007, 00:26:39
Ok, Quake4 worx, but not with the doom3 edited mesafx. You can runned it becouse the 6.3.0.1 version of MesaFX in the SFFT driver.

I created a preset to it, now everybody can use it with other v5 drivers too, the pset can found in the directory called "Quake4 + Voodoo5 loading FIX".
Simpy copy every file from "ThunderGL + MOD" to q4 dir and then copy the
.\Quake4 + Voodoo5 loading FIX\ThunderGL.ini to the q4's dir.

I tested thundergl 0.13a and the results are the same
I tested also with SFFT alpha43 and i got a BSOD every time i run q4 just before the intro videos
p.s. i'm using q4 1.3 and it don't require dvd to play;)

Geri you are a crazy genius:D
I tested ThunderGL with SFFT alpha43 on Windows XP 64bit edition (no OpenGL support)
Using your experimental opengl -> D3D wrapper i made quake3 arena run on 64 operating system! [8D]

Post by: Geri on 11 January 2007, 14:27:34
Its not only my wrapper [8D]
ThunderGL connects to WickedGL and transalates functions to glide, evoodoo hooks the glide and transalates the glide calls to direct3d, so the final displayin is happining in d3d =)
ThunderGL is only need to eliminate initialisation bigs, and fix the crashes, manage to start the stuff :D

(If somebody knows some opensource *usable and good* opengl->3dfx and 3dfx->d3d wrapper, link it. With them i can fix more easyly the d3d bugs like from thundergl. I tryed some existing free opengl->d3d wrappers too to use, but with, them the games didint want to start, or no display ,etc.)

Can you add a small "How to use" readme file to the Thunder GL ?
Thanks.
Radu.
Title: ThunderGL
Post by: Geri on 21 January 2007, 04:19:40
Hi.
You can found the readme at archive/DOC/ThunderGL/english.txt
The help to the configuration file is stored in the default config, in the end of the file (#-ed) (archive/ThunderGL + MOD/ThunderGL.ini)
Please note that you should copy every file from the "ThunderGL + MOD" directory.
If you has a question that isnt answeered in these files, then ask it here.
Please note that using a few command in the ini (like the GPU= line) may will cause bugs, some stuffs not fully implemented yet. I will fix it in the next relase.

Nice work Geri !
I tested the ThunderGL, and the speed improvements in some games it's really amazing !
I'm impressed.
Can you name a tool or program witch can show the ThunderGL extensions that you have implemented ?
Are you working on the texture compression too ?

here is the program.

first run the Tool and pay attentions to the core Features.
Afterthat, put in the program directory the ThunderGL files ( like in Geri readme.txt file ), and run the Tool again. Notice the difference [:p]
Great work !

What is the game version number? I only tested it with the demo.
You should not put nothing to system32, only to game dir.

I will repack the package and will create a directory to all game with the files that should be copyed, like it was in minigl, to avoid problems like this.

NEWZ!

ThunderGL 'POLYBOOSTGL' n-patch / nurbs renderer using Truform by ATi!

http://legend.uw.hu/projects/program/thundergl/polyboostgl.rar

What is this?
This special version of ThunderGL alowws to render the games with nurbs. It will convert all of the polygons to nurbs, and then reconvert them to polygons with hardware acceleration (only ATi 8500 (VS 1.1, PS 1.4) and above supports it!). This make the game's visuality to a LOT better, becouse we will not see those evil polygons (only in some buggy places :P)

BEFORE:

AFTER:

Please note that this will incrase the detail, but maybee degrade your performance, hard. For me, on a 2 Ghz Athlon and a 9800PRO, in Alice, Quake2, and in Kingpin was no noticable performance loss, but in newer games may it will be.

far cry has a built-in execution prevention system-once a 3dfx card is detected,it will bail you out.no way around this yet,to launch the game, you need to defeat this first.

I was able to launch the game on some old intel integrated graphics,so FC on a V5 is real (but it will look terrible,probably)..

GL_ARB_vertex_buffer_object will be emulated and supported on all card (this is a necessary vertex buffering mechanism that needed for all modern games to upload the vertex directly to the gpu, to avoid agp transfer. New games wont start without this, becouse they are using draw operation of this extension, so all function of this extension mus be emulated). I almost finished it, it is alreday working. (newest mesafx alreday supports this)
Title: ThunderGL
Post by: Geri on 14 September 2007, 15:30:45
ok, it seems i finished GL_ARB_vertex_buffer_object (well, currently vbo and ibo works only with float vertices, oh well) now i will add multitexture ability (GL_ARB_multitexture) to all cards.

btw, if somebody know any opensource gl->d3d wrapper, say it, i want to leave the tgl->wgl->evoodoo wrapping.

Video Plugin (placed in \plugins folder, and selected it in Emu's Options): Rice Video 6.1.3.3 in OpenGL mode ( https://ricevideo.bountysource.com/downloads )
Any rom file, as "Super Mario 64 (U) [!]"

a BAT file needed to be able to use MESAFX:
---------------------------------------------

set MESA_FORCE_SSE=y
set MESA_DEBUG=y
set MESA_FX_INFO=r
Project64.exe

without ThunderGL, it works OK in opengl 1.1 only.

And you are using Voodoo5, right?

if i use latest official 3dfx opengl ICD... i can't start any game, it said: initialiting opengl subsystem... and then, it goes to 640x480x4bit with an 3dfxvs error.

note: with mesafx, it should be setted in window mode in emulator's option (if set to fullscreen crashs... i don't know why...)

Post by: Geri on 29 December 2007, 01:45:41
I tryed the emulator - it runs fine in DirectX mode, no need for opengl.

I powered up a server for thundergl versions, who have problems downloading, get it from here: ftp://DRIVEREK@lgfx.no-ip.org/Readme/readme.html

maybee i will later check this emulator again under opengl, but it seems no problems with it.

-some bugs in the Vertex Buffer Object pipeline emulation fixed.
-I found a nasty way to speed up the Vertex Buffer Object pipeline on cards, that dont support it at the extension level. VBO compatible applications now will get speed gain too with the old cards with thundergl. Speed gain is around 250%.
-cards with geometry chip (old Wildcat series) or TnL chip (some old Voodoo2/Voodoo3, S3 series) from now will be use that geometry unit to display the vertex buffer object pipeline (speed up.)
-some segmentation faults has been eliminated
-new multitexturing bugs fixed
-some other bugs, related to the VBO pipeline is being fixed

Can i use this opengl 'driver' on my Trident blade I7 from my old laptop ? and gives this any advantages.

Title: ThunderGL
Post by: Jules on 18 June 2008, 18:26:34

I have a second question.

If ThunderGL is not an option for my trident blade I7 on my old laptop. Is there an other option to speed up D3d or Opengl.

The way of thinking is this:

Games that run on that trident blade 8MB card does require no more than a pentium 166mmx to run good. That laptop is 500Mhz. So games that will run on that laptop don't need all the CPU power. I search a driver/wrapper that speeds op D3D or Opengl by using some CPU power.
Or is this a stupid question i ask ??

greets

Post by: Geri on 22 July 2008, 00:41:58
Of course, its not a stupid question. Sorry, for i was incorrect, and not told all information fully about the newest series from these drivers.

The ThunderGL - latest updated a few months ago. Its for 3dfx cards mostly, and a few other cards. ONLY for those cards, that you see in the directory structure of the thundergl-s rar, and only for those games, that you see in the directory-s.
No, its not compatible with Trident cards, only if you got luck.

The linked Wildcat 4110 driver: that driver isnt freeware, and its ONLY for the Wildcat 4110 series. The linked file is a trial version, that alows you to play with the wildcat series for a 5 mins. (this is NOT the thundergl, but i isnt wanted to start a new topic for them)

3dfx cards: Died out. Nothing to do currently. 3dfx enhancements are go to thundergl, and they will stay freeware.

Another cards: i dont have all cards at here, at home. I can write driver enhancements to almost all cards, but i need a few days with the specified card. So, if you have a laptop, i probably need a remote admin interface to your laptop, with full rights to control your machine, and full support of you, saying, what you see, commentig the bugs, etc. In this case, the drivers of course is FREE for you :D (you get serial for it) But you cannot share them to other persons, and i probably will sell that driver for other peoples. (this is NOT the thundergl, but i isnt wanted to start a new topic for them)

FarCry on a voodoo5 I think that was nothing than one bog hoax, since there was a film of it on you tube I thought, but with film editting you can come avery l;ong way too, imho FarCry + 3dfx Voodoo5 might be possible via to edit some type of ini file but on the other hand who has the proof that it would really work? Maybee.

I cant say more, becouse i not even readed more than the name and the parameters from those cards in my life. I have no aalchemy card, and i know nobody, who has.

First, i need somebody who are running an aalchemy under xp, with basic opengl drivers, that able to run a quake2 level game. If this is currently not reached, ask SFFT, this is his profession.

(I will read that topic later.)

Post by: m14radu on 28 December 2008, 07:54:17
Hy Geri,

Yes, i do ask you that once, but at that time i get only a negative answer, whitout too much details.
:D

Actually there is only the Win2000/NT compatible driver.
Everybody who has this card must use it under this operating sistem.
I tryed once to start the card under XP, with this drivers, but they are not working.

The Game Quake2 runs on AALchemy boards without problems under Win2000/NT.

Thanks for your quick response and understanding.

P.S. I send you an email on your msn account.

project respawns
Title: ThunderGL
Post by: Geri on 14 March 2010, 23:11:57
The changes: the project respawned. ThunderGL in the current form is discontinued. The usable sources of it are implemented with together an another source codes of me. The new software called XXXXXXXXXXXX.
Becouse XXXXXXXXXXXX is very different from thundergl, i will write a long description from it.
Title: ThunderGL
Post by: Geri on 18 March 2010, 23:58:03
XXXXXXXXXXXX is my new opengl driver arhitecture. It is a full opengl implementation, coded by myself. It is multiplatform: its compatible with windows and linux. XXXXXXXXXXXX is a modular driver. The rendering module currently uses CPU cores to render, perhaps this is the first public working multithreaded-multicpu opengl renderer ever... or not :P

TitaniumDFX will be a version of XXXXXXXXXXXX. In TitaniumDFX, ewerything is the same like in XXXXXXXXXXXX, except that the rendering and texturing will be doed with 3dfx hardware acceleration with Glide. Every 3dfx card will be compatible.

facts:
-XXXXXXXXXXXX project is related to mesa. Mesa is a famous project, but able to single core software rendering only.
-XXXXXXXXXXXX, of course, fully independent from mesa. XXXXXXXXXXXX only uses code and modules coded by me.
-XXXXXXXXXXXX is not a wrapper.
-TitaniumDFX needs stronger CPU in 3dfx mode. Many features of 3dfx cards will be emulated.
-TitaniumDFX's game compatibility with the great old opengl games is mutch lower than other 3dfx card opengl drivers, it is probably much slower than them. XXXXXXXXXXXX is focused to run tons of small freeware and shareware opengl games of todays, istead of running the old AAA games.
-TitaniumDFX is not a priority. XXXXXXXXXXXX is. But becouse of modularity, TitaniumDFX can have the bugfixes of XXXXXXXXXXXX immediately.
-OpenGL version number is 1.3, and i am not plan to expand it currently.
-ALL Donations are welcome. Serious, becouse of the huge time what a full opengl implementation needs to be created. Paypal accepted, can be accesed on http://legendgrafix.tk
-TitaniumDFX is freeware.

status:
-RGB, RGBA, BGR, BGRA, tons of others support
-True color rendering (not in 3dfx mode of course)
-Texture support up to 4096x4096 (3dfx of c. will be downscaled)
-vertex arrays
-VBO
-Display Lists
-Frame buffer image draw supported (eeeeek)
-triangle, quad, quad strip, triangle strip, triangle fan & friends works. Rendering is triangle based.
-vertex coloring works
-multitexturing
-alpha blending (most common cases works fine)
-SSE and 3dnow! optimized drivers can be compiled
-Quake2, Half Life, xmoto, and most of nehe tutorials running with suitable speed. Minor bugs.

Hello Geri! just want you to know I have been all worked up about a new OpenGL/glide assist program since you said you might start ThunderGL again on falconfly. I'm all in for testing TitaniumDFX and project XXXXXXXXGL they both sound very interesting. Just a few questions though. You said that project XXXXXXXXGL will not be a wrapper? Will TitaniumDFX be a wrapper like ThunderGL and work in conjunction with 3dfx cards then? Or will it be stand alone like project XXXXXXXXGL and simply emulate GLIDE on the CPU? I really hope the first release is promising and effective! Gonna hafta build an AM3 system to take advantage of these new Titanium projects! I really hope TitaniumDFX is available soon! Keep up the amazing work Geri!

Once again I have: S3 VirgeDX 8mb with 3rd party fastware bios, Geforce4 ti4200 w/ burnt pixel pipes, Radeon7200 32mb, and ofcourse my beloved Voodoo5 5500 PCI MAC. All are ready to try out XXXXXXXXGL (I will purchase soon once school calms down) and my Voodoo 5 is absolutely craving a release of this TitaniumDFX.

Hi all,
Pardon me for my bad english:-
Are you guys still testing/developing drivers for 3Dfx, OpenGL?
If Yes, Is there a room for me?
I would like to contribute by being a tester.
I would like to also learn up "coding" so that I be able to develop/edit drivers for opengl.

I am interested, but I do not know where to began or what to do.
Do you guys need my job-resume or something?

Anyway, I am always a 3DFx fan. I just recently bought a second-hand Voodoo5 PCI.
I can say offically, that I own
Voodoo Banshee
Voodoo1
Voodoo2 SLI
Voodoo3 AGP
Voodoo4 PCI
Voodoo5 PCI (on the way from Ebay)

Geri,

Thanks for adding me to MSN. I will test ThunderGL very soon.

I have a brand new Pentium Dual Core, Voodoo 5 MAC PCI, and perhaps I will install 4 OS. (Win98, 2K,XP,7)

1GB RAM.

I heard you are looking for testers who are using 64-bit OS?

right?

sorry, i dont have the file any more, and this project is totally discontinued. if i may ask the moderators, to please make it unsticky.

or maybe to delete it at all, since it never resulted any usable manifestation, and people are mistaking it with my new opengl implementations due to the very similar name.
