Title: Bootdisk for Windows 98SE
Post by: perer on 16 March 2004, 19:55:42
Does anyone know a bootdisk for Windows 98SE. Which can format the harddisk or scan it? And I do not mean the standard Windows 98SE one I am not able to use that one for a strange reason.

You can try going to http://www.bootdisk.com/ for a laundry list of OS bootdisks. I am curious as to why you can't use the standard one. Is your BIOS set to boot from the floppy first, before the harddrive? If not, try making the first boot option the floppy.

Regards
Jim

hmm, do you have another floppy and cable you could try? I have this problem often, usually related to one or the other. The format on the windows 98 CD is located in the /win98 directory I believe, either there or the /tools/oldmsdos

Yes I have, and I have tries three cables and two floppy drives.
But stil the same problem. The light of the floppy drive stays on.
And can't read any floppy, and the floppy that were in the drive have to be formatted again because they are erased somehow.

"the light on the floppy says on?"

I know exactly what the problem is and I know why the floppy disks are no longer readable.

You have got the floppy cable connected the wrong way round. Either at the motherboard or Floppy drive end. Its a common problem.

yep, Paul's right, flip one end of the cable over, and the light won't stay on any more ;)(probably the end at the drive, especially if it's a keyed cable). Don't worry, we all do foolish things at times.

lol, wtf was he thinking? ArchAngel, at least where I'm from, wtf is commonly used not to express anger, but confusion, like what the f* is going on here?. I believe this is what perer meant by it when he offended you.

BTW ArchAngelCD , are you working on a Quake based engine?
I saw the name ArchAngel on a site ( open quake ).
I ask this because I am planning to modify the quake2 engine for practice coding etc. I plan to implement detail texturing stenciling and other things.
