Title: Voodoo 2 and windows xp
Post by: SpiderSpawnX on 30 April 2003, 03:14:08
I have a 4mb 3d rage pro that shows up in Display Adapters and it is connected to my Voodoo 2 12mb ( pci) slot , i installed the fastvodoo2 2.0  driver and everything seems fine in device manager except when i click on resorces it says "this device is not using any resources because it has a problem.

When I had vodoo 2 installed under windows me i did not have this problem.  I used to be able to play simcity 3000 and under the settings in game resolution i could choose from voodoo2 or 3d rage pro, but now only my rage card is present.  game is very slow to generate the map display of a large city now.

CAn someone please help?  do I need a new driver, I cannot find it.  Also with my old driver under windows me ( i now have xp ) i could adjust glide, refresh rates under the desktop properties but now I do not know where this menue is located for the new driver.

well, under XP/Win2k/NT4 and with your V2, only the glide and opengl (1.1) + probably WickedGl will be possible, D3D is not supported by the V2 under these api's.

so, if SimCity is a D3D game, the maps are generated by your ATIcard which owns only 4mo of memory...

well, a dual boot might be useful (XP//Win9x/Me)...

hmmmmz, didnt 3dfx had two beta drivers for voodoo2+win2k? one with opengl/glide support, and 1 with direct3d support? i remember something like that....
but isn't simcity 3000 a 2d game only? so that the voodoo2 will not be used at all?

indeed, a driver exists for 2D/3D (with support for DirX7.0) under Win2k (seems compatible with XP) and without glide or opengl support : this is version V1.00.00b but if you look the readme, you will see that the using of this driver isn't easy and has many limitations

but this driver lets you also use the card like any standard 2D card if you don't be afraid of the manipulations but without being sure of the result with the games

and frankly under XP, i prefer a V2 in glide or with a minigl because this is really its kingdom ;)
