Hello,
I am having problems with my Creative 3D blaster Voodoo2.
When I try to play a DOS game, all I get is a black screen. I don't even see the 3Dfx logo at startup.
I use the card with a Diamond Viper II Z200.
I've already tried the v2-auto.inf for the DOS compatibility environment strings.
Does anyone know of a fix or am I forgetting something?
Thanks
Justin
Hello,
What's your machine and the game ?
Ah sorry forgot to mention that.
Rig:
Pentium 3 700
~286 mb ram
SoundBlaster Pro2 Isa
The games I tried are Carmageddon 1 and Lands of Lore 2.
I also tried Carmageddon 2 (Windows game) and that worked.
glide2x.ovl is in my windows directory and the games detects my card, they just give me a black screen.
Btw:
I found out that reducing my CPU clock speed to 300-330 mhz (something like that, don't remember exact speed) fixes some things. I can now see the spinning 3Dfx logo at game startup but Carmageddon 1 (DOS) hangs at that point.
When I increase clock speed again I get a GL error.
Lands of Lore 2 is playable for about 1 minute, after that it hangs. Keyboard is messed up in that game and sound stutters with cpu rate reduced.
This is all in true DOS mode (win98se). When I try to run them from a dosbox in Win98, it never works. Always a black screen.
Thanks in advance
-Justin
With Land of Lore 2, did you try this tip
"Install 3dfx patch...start game..press ESC..choose secondary card..may need a reboot for the game to detect the card."
(Update in first the game with the patch 1.30)

Thanks for the reply!
Yes I've tried that and it works sometimes. I edit the options.ini file and set Acceleration to "no". Primary or Secondary card doensn't matter. Then I start the game and put Acceleration to yes. I don't see the 3dfx logo but it works.
I think in bios CPU/PCI frequincy is giving problems. Carmageddon only works sometimes at 333 mhz (with the voodoo2 patch).
If you think that indeed a fast cpu is a problem, you can try Mo'Slo (http://www.hpaa.com/moslo/) or Cpukiller (http://www.cpukiller.com/).
