Thats exactly were I had Unreal II hanging under Win9x and W2K aswell. I think that it is due to something that I had already removed from the driver code after the Alpha 2. As I said it works with my current code, which is post the Alpha 2. Thanks for the feedback anyway.

I have tried Unreal II Awakening under Win98 with the last 3dfx beta's, and also under win2k, with the last 3dfx drivers, and it freezes when the game is finishing loading. I have tried it with my latest test drivers under w2k and it seems to work. Ar least it makes it to the point where I can move around and talk to characters. This may be fixed in the next version.

Do any DirectX games run on your machine using this driver i.e. under XP, does Amigerlin produce problems with these games. Are you running 3Dalayze or any such thing when running with these games. Any more information that you can supply to clarify the position would be appreciated.

I presuem that you are running DX8 or later, and that the game is using DirectX.

I have a Voodoo 3500 TV card which claims on the boot bios message that it has a 2-15-05 SD BIOS. As this is in the UK, I presume that it should be a PAL BIOS. If you can point me in the direction of some utils, to download the BIOS I can send you a file.

I have sent a second test driver for Voodoo5 to you. I have fixed a lot of DirectX problems with it. there is still a bit of a problem with single GPU cards, that I have fixed since this version. Most noticably, I have fixed the Big texture support so you don't get the while patches when running in high detail modes.

I seem to recall that the official drivers don't install on at least one version of Win2k, advanced server I think, they don't do things like reboot if you run more than 1 directx client at once, and I suspect that they run on a multi-processor machine. Yjeu seem to have proper thread synchronisation. Ther are some graphic corruption problems, with them, but amigerlin has those aswell, they aren't as good as the Win9x drivers in that respect. I believe that both amigerlin and the official drivers are DX7 drivers, so they should be supported on DX8 and pesumably DX9. Amigerlin seems to have issues with 32 bit per pixel modes, the official driver is better in this respect.

You have got the floppy cable connected the wrong way round. Either at the motherboard or Floppy drive end. Its a common problem.

It just happens to be the machine that I am using for DX8.1 testing on W2k. I think that the driver is about ready for an alpha test, to see if it is of any use. I suspect that if it runs on XP it might be.

I have tried 3DMark2001 SE as a DX8.1 Test, and have tested with the DirectX 8.1 SDK samples. I have also tested with IL2 Forgotton Battles and Gunship. I have being comparing the driver against the last 3dfx official driver and Amigerlin 3.0. I am testing on a Voodoo 5500 AGP. I have found that my dirver seems to work aswell as the offical driver although like Amigerlin it has problems running multiple DirectX clients simoultaneously. I have noticed problems with Amigerlin with 32 bit per pixel modes, it doesn't run some of the DX8 samples in 32 bit per pixel modes, and doesn't run 3DMark in 32 bit per pixel mode either. I have tested all three drivers using 3Dmark, and the results are below.

1024 * 768 resolution

Official 32 bit per pixel     Score 346               0.8 Million Triangles per sec
Score 343               0.8 Million Triangles per sec

Amigerlin 3.0 16 bits per pixel Score 350             0.8 Million Triangles per sec
Score 349             0.8 Million Triangles per sec

SFFT  32 bits per pixel         Score 359             0.9 Million Triangles per sec
Score 359             0.9 Million Triangles per sec

In addition I have noticesd that the frame rate of one of the DX8.8 SDk samples increased to 100 fps asa against 80 for the official driver. I think that the triangle drawing rate has been improved somewhat. I was testing on a 300 Mhz Petium II based system.

Well the driver is an attempt to produce a DX8.1 Driver for Win2k. I would like to see if it addresses the 32bit per pixel issues, and if it works under XP. I am going to try some testing with 3DMark to get some idea of the performance.

How does one get a new Voodoo 4/5 Driver tested around here.
