No big suprise to me.
It has been said that UT2004 can be run without a 3D card (software) so that it runs on a banshee is no suprise. It'll probably also run on a V1.

Notice that in the video renderer, he has Direct 3d selected ;)

Good work, Raziel64: this is a nice look for all Banshee users. They can be happy and deserve a new optimized driver release asap. You read here (http://www.3dfxzone.it/enboard/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=866).

No luck with a voodoo 1.  It will run with sofware mode on this machine, inspite of being much lower than the minimum requirements, but when I tried directx it told me I needed to enable acceleration, and when I tried opengl with MesaFX it wouldn't load at all, but eventually I could get the 3dfx logo to spin up with some config editing, but it hung immediatly after that.  I couldn't get it to work with a good hours worth of hacking around with the UT2004.INI file.

Voodoo1 ? [:I]

Good luck guy but probably Banshee card is 3dfx boards range's inferior limit running UT 2004 ;)

Hey, I didn't think it would work...  I just had to try after Phalanx made the challenge. :)  He said it probably would, and I was thinking probably not, but I already had it downloaded, so...  After getting the 3dfx logo to spin up though, I think it might run in Opengl with MesaFX on a voodoo 2.  I think my little voodoo 1 was running out of texture memory. ;)

no idea if anyone will respond to such a dead topic, but how the hell do you get the game to look that good on a banshee?

mine looks hideous on a v3 3500 compared to this.

Yep, that's something why I'm wondering, too. My Voodoo3 2000 PCI @ 195/195 displays the whole game in brown and green colors with very lowres textures. A Banshee has the same features but is far far slower ...

the game ran without errors on a voodoo3 pci with SFFT driver (dont remember the version anymore).there is only one problem-no matter how fast your cpu is,the game is nowhere near fast..

nope.he just made a damn good D3D core.

i don't know if there is enough similarity in the chips to do so, but could you use that core with a v3? i just threw my banshee in the garbage, maybe i'll go dig it back out.

seriously, if my games looked that good on a v3 i wouldn't keep my ti4200 around for when friends come over and won't play on the voodoo.

i've gotten the game to play with my cards without any errors using both the amigasport and sfft drivers, but they both look really bad, horribly blurry text and low res looking 3d.

thanks for all the discussion.

Well, the Banshee has just one TMU, so it has to use single texturing all the time. The Voodoo3 can handle two of them ... that's roughly the only difference beside the big gap when you take a look at the clockrates. But I doubt it could work without modifications ...

Raff

this really is frustrating.

i'm having another LAN this weekend, and the lineup is DOOM3 CO-OP, then BF2, then UT2K4, and finally Quake4.

it kinda sucks, having doom3 look better than ut2k4 on my voodoo.

my voodoo4 is at the post office tho, so i'll pick that up and see if it gets any better.
