Title: Voodoo3 Anti Aliasing
Post by: TelemachusRhade on 02 January 2006, 00:46:23
Hi...

I have another question for you, dear community...

Ive read about antialiasing from diferent sources... Some say that there is no such thing as AA for Voodoo3, others that there is but its not working or working very weak (not visible [lol])...

I`m twisted a bit now... Is there one answer to the antialiasing question ? How is it in real ? Could someone explain the anti aliasing matter to me please ? Now when I`ve started my adventure with MesaFx where I found TAA Glide I`m even more curious about it...

Thanks in advance

If AA is working, there is one thing for sure: YOU CAN SEE IT[8D]
AntiAliasing (Edge, not FSAA)is working for Voodoo3, but the software has to support it. I say this because I have seen it work with the glide demo files (not game) that were included with the "souce code" NuA had released:D, but I have lost it and now it doesn't seem accesible on the internet[B)]

ah agrelaphon :) you allways answer to my questions, god bless you :)

Could you also give me a few examples of software that support this Edge AA ? About this NuA matter... Are you saying that, to make it available I need some special stuff from NuA ? I`ve turned to AM 2.9 drivers now, since they are highly recomended to use with MesaFx wich I am now testing...I must admit that I`ve never seen Edge AA (or maybe I didnt payed attention) Thats why I would like to see it now and learn about it a bit :)

No, I'm not saying that. It's simply not available in games, I haven't seen a single game supporting V3 AA. Some say the Tomb Rider (original) had EdgeAA support, but I never had this game :P

You can find SDK of Glide and examples here:
http://www.falconfly.de/reference.htm at the file "CD-ROM: 3dfx Software Developer's Kit V1.0"
I think "test25" is that you are finding.

Drivers of Voodoo3 doesn't support AA. However if a game run AA, it's run by a specific software that is designed to emulate AA in the game.
