Title: Help please, some questions...
Post by: MaxFX on 13 January 2005, 23:19:09
Hi people !!!

I have some questions for ya...

1) Does GTA 3 has an OPENGL engine ? If it does, how do I use it ?
2) Tell me some old nice GLIDE games (up to 1999).
3) I'm having a problem with Quake 3 ARENA. Here it is:
When I ajust the graphics settings to Voodoo opengl, i can play, the image is fine, everything is right, BUT when I try to close the game, to get back to Windows, a strange thing happens, the credits images stays in the screen, and the mouse pointer doesn't move. The keyboard is useless. So the way to make the computer work again is pressing the power button to turn off ( TURN OFF CORRECTLY, NOT JUST POWER OFF ). I use a Voodoo 2 PCI1000 8MB with the Fast Voodoo 2 XP GE Drivers, with the correction. The Voodoo 2 is connected to a GF4, the GF4 is using the Detonator 45.23 WHQL Driver.

THANKS !

if it's only Quake 3 idon't suggest you to try legendgrafix..

Legendgrafix is a new set of driver for xp, released by geri, that allows voodoo2 to run also in direct 3d..
here for you a link..

I have included Quake III in my list because
1)MaxFx mentioned it
2)the "Voodoo Mode" is selectable..
3)It's very nice with a pair of voodoo2
Are you laughing of a mod? Is not funny..
obviously I ask you to delete/modify your post.
Regards, Manuelson

I wasn't, but now I do[:X] kisses
Ciao
oh, man Q3 wasn't voodoo friendly at all. (Supporting large and compressd textures, 16bit looking crap and all). You're better off with a GF2MX :P
...and you didn't even mentioned UT

We have a professor here..what a privilege..
THEN: if you are so skilled, why you haven't replied to MaxFx?
Is always easy to criticate and laugh.. but when I aswer to any user, I'm not used to write thinking about mannerless users like you, that haven't nothing to do except wait for an error,an imprecision and laughing on..
I'll tell you again, delete/modify both your posts..
I Removed Quake III from the list, although with voodoo2 is nice..are you happy now?

Certain kind of people really doesn't know how to spend the time..

The fun was not your writing Q3 on the list, but your reaction, lol
Maybe you should delete your posts, they are offensive, although I'm against that alltogether. The hole world is watching[8D]

EDIT: Maybe we should put an end to it, mate

;)

HAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHHAHA

What an interesting discution....but....this forum should be a place to learn...so "agrelaphon", if you CAN'T HELP, don's answer the topics, if you have question, ask, BUT ALWAYS with respect, because nobody here is earning anything to help the comunity !

This discution is useless....for all of us...

So please, i'm not a Admin. or Moderator, i'm a common member, so I do not have any HUGE power here....but this is all I ask !

BACK TO WHAT MATTERS !

:D :D :D

Can I make Voodoo work in DIRECT3D and OPENGL too ? Or only in glide ?

What should I do to make it ?

THANKS !

Ok, guys, this is enough for now, that's becoming puerile.
A part of this topic is now off topic so keep "sticky" to the original question.
And thks to those who try to give answers.

D3D is possible with 2 or 3 drivers (if i include Legendgrafix)  but with limitations.

OpenGl : 3dfxopengl icd, minigl, wickedgl and MesaFx.

i folks !

I got Need For Speen III-Hot pursuit, and now I'm looking for Ford Racing 2...

SO, I am impressed with the reflections of the cars in NFSIII, It's outstanding, and the colors, amazing, everything is true....glide is different :D , Nice colors...

BUT !

I am using Fast Voodoo 2 .40 XP GE drivers, there's a registry key in the package that activates AA in Glide mode...I added this key to the registry, but the AA is not that good, I'd like to improve it...

What should I do ? Or there's no way to do this ?

THANKS !
Title: Help please, some questions...
Post by: Manuelson on 16 January 2005, 12:34:16

OK, that's not too much, but it's enough,

I have questions agaig hhehehe:

1) Those 3 CHIPS with the 3DFX LOgo...are they GPU's ? Or what ?
2) How many bit's does Voodoo 2 has ?
3) My Voodoo 2 has 24memory CHIPS, 8 of them are 125mhz ones, and the rest is 100MHz...Why ?

THANKS AGAIN FOLKS !

Post by: secretfj on 16 January 2005, 14:47:49
Voodoo2 consists of two parts...
one is the texture unit
the another one..i've forget about its proper name...
but if you look at your voodoo card carefully, you can see two chips with "BE" and another with "CK"
those "BE" chips are TMUs, so voodoo can do two texture in one pass..(someone had said that "BE" mean Bruce Lee, and CK...i've forgotten...sorry)

so you can understand why there is 8 chips that's different, coz each unit have its own memory, total 24 = 8 X 3

1)yes, there are 3 processors (not a gpu because there is no T&L hardware)
2)16 bit of color depth (65536 colors) it works at 64 bit (I think)
3)I don't know..however, don't exceed the 97 mhz..It could be dangerous..

Nothing here is unknown :
- the 3dfx beta drivers for Win2k (without support for glide and opengl) 1.00.00 beta Direct3D
- WhitetigerX7 1.02.01-BETA
and now the Legendgrafix

Those 2 last drivers use the 3dfx beta core and the limitations for now seem known very well :
The Voodoo 2 doesn't run like a multimedia media but as a secondary display adapter since the detached device support doesn't exist in the Win2k kernel (so same under XP), the Sli is not supported...

Read the txt inside in the driver, all is very well explained by 3Dfx.

But i can say also that some people succeded to run some games under XP and DirX using the 3dfx beta driver.

The lists are usefull, i'll start downloading all those games...heheheh

But something i'd like to improve is the Anti Alising, which is very weak in Voodoo 2...if there's anyway to do this, please....tell me. :D

I don't know how good is AntiAliasing in v2 - never seen it, but afaik it's early implementation an that's why it doesn't look superb. Anyway, can you take screenshots of some scene with and without AA enabled, so we can compare the images?

I just need a place to host the pictures...

@ 2)
Other older glide games worth playing are Red Baron 3d and Grand Prix Legends, both have tons of upgrades and are still very much alive and kicking.
