Hi all,

Well my secret project has been completed, I also made pics along the way so here is my 3dfx build, from a 11 year old setup I used in the past, the motherboard is the famous EPoX EP-BX3, I think some of you do remmeber this one all too well.the system is actually from 1998, although the mobo was replaced in 1999 wutha  more upgraded version with Pentium !!! support :)

So here is how I began, By stripping the case to a steel frame, and by removing all the parts and cleaned them with numerous brushes and the vacume cleaner to suck away the dust and dirt, as you can see the parts look like new, including them capacitors on the 11 year old motherboard! :D

CPU Ram & Mobo:

rear:

CPU.Ram, Mobo VGA, Radio,LAN & Sound card:

Then after this I laid the clean hardware parts on my glass top Table and filled a basin filled with hot water and mixed with Dreft, and I literally scrubbed every plastic and metal part clean, the system was so dusty that there were 3cm blankets of gray wool on some places, as being this system was never cleaned since Q3 2000, so you can imagine why I was coughing here and there hahaha :D :D

So here some pics on how I began this job, to resrect this old king of 3D, one oof the pics shows a good idea of befor and after treatment:

Here the cleaned front panels:

Here is the entire case cleaned, this is after treatment, it used to be one mass of gray wool and piles of dust which looked like gray soil [:o] :D

Cleaned case fan and Drive bays and other parts:

Here is a stage when I just installed the CPU, Mobo ram, drives and needed cards

And from the opposite side:

PSU installed, an A-Open 350 Watter btw, + cables tie-wrapped for a neat look and better airflow, later pics show that some of the hull plating has been placed:

The  cleaned case shrouds replaced:

The finished result rear right:

And so, here the system nears completion during the final construction stages:

And here the complete result with the side panels attached :) Blue-Leader Y-Wing Art:

And the other side with the White Pointer Art:

Anyways more to come soon, on how this thing performs, I plan to go for Win 98 SE USA + Un-Official Service Pack 3.0, since this system is typically made for such an OS.

System specs are the following:

Avenger M99

Intel Pentium !!!/E 650Mhz Coppermine  S.E.C.C. 2 / Slot 1
3x 128MB PC-100 CL3 Hyundai / Samsung
EPoX EP-BX3 Intel BX440 Chipset
3dfx Voodoo3 3500C AGP 16MB + TV-Out Rev.A 2100 [8D]
Intel Pro 100/S Desktop Adapter
Philips FM/AM Radio Card 8Bit ISA
Creative Labs AWE64 Gold CT4390 :D [8D]
1x Maxtor Diamond Max 9+ 40GB ATA 100

Windows 98SE + UOSP 3.0a
AmigaMerlin 2.9 for V3-3500C

The reason why I went for the Voodoo3, was because of the Golden Fact VA Member Voodoo³ gave us all:

That the Avenger chips have superb 2D/3D filters, when compared towards from that of other 3dfx Video chips.
This is also why he used a Voodoo3 3500 TV AGP, as I have heard [8D]

So this is my little tribute to Voodoo³ himself, he shall never be forgotten, his spirit within the Force shall live on always [8D]

Hi all :)

After some convo I had with rottentreats via MSN, he asked me if I had pics of SFFT's Voodoo5 6000 Rev.A 3700 he once sold to Murfi a long while ago, but after looking into my archives I could find no answers, and after using the search here this is all what we both could come up with:

http://www.3dfxzone.it/enboard/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=10138

SFFT's sale of his card.

So If anyone has pics of this card , please post them I want them for reference :)

I hope this not much of a problem.

Peace.

Hi all I received some bad news from the NVIDIA & EVGA forums via email that ChrisRay has passed away on January 28, 2010
Here's the memories page of this felllow man:
http://www.nvnews.net/articles/chris_ray_memorial/

"ChrisRay, 1983 - 2010
3D Graphics Enthusiast, Forum Moderator, and Gamers' Friend

We're deeply saddened by the loss of our friend Chris "ChrisRay" Arthington who succumbed to pneumonia on January 28th, 2010. He was only 27.

Chris was a longtime graphics enthusiast, nZone moderator, and frequent contributor on a number of on-line forums including nV News, SLI Zone, EVGA, Rage3D, AnandTech, Beyond3D, GameSpot and others. He loved graphics technology and had a sincere desire to assist people by sharing information, trouble-shooting and reporting issues to NVIDIA.

As a member of our user group, he helped us evaluate new hardware and advocated for improvements like advanced anti-aliasing and improved multi-GPU scaling. His Twitter (ChrisRaySLI) bio states:

"Goal: Help All Nvidia users by improving their experience with Nvidia Hardware."

He died at an age of 27, which is kinda young, the cause was: Pneumonia, Chris was a good friend of mine as everyone within the EVGA / NVIDIA fourms.

Anyways I donated money to fund his ill mother, which i found a respectful thing to do, I was asked to spread the news for this, so here by I post this.

Peace.

Hi all

Today a 3dfx mate of mine from Minnesota USA, that goes under the nick of rottentreats came to the idea of making a skin for a 3dfx airliner for a B744 aka Boing 747-400 for Flight Simulator X Deluxe Edition.
he came with the idea of the color sceme  white, black, and orange and then I came with the idea to give it the Get Voodoo. slogan on it's sides and the mini 3dfx logo's on it's engines so here's the result!

Here i made some more pics now in DX10 mode with SLI AA x32 + AF x16 on my Quad SLI GTX 295 Red Edition Setup :)

Hi All here it is then :)

http://www.dvhardware.net/articles25_fastr...ercomputer.html

What a monster 13x GT200b's for some Cuda :haha: rofl

It has 4 Dual PCB'ed ASUS GTX 295's and 2 Single PCB'ed ASUS GTX 295's as where the main VGA is an ASUS GTX 275:

"This time the job was more complicated though, the new system features 13 GPUs and a custom BIOS from ASUS and Linux kernel hacks were required to get it operational. FASTRA II is 3.5 times faster than the original system and is likely the fastest desktop computer in the world."

They simply used every PCI-E 2.0 x16 slot on the mobo! And this is how :)

These were used to fit all the cards:

Which then gave this possibility:

So here a vid everyone [8D]
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GOpBlYx2H1o...player_embedded

As for it's performance:

As power usage:

And here is why the GTX 275 was used as main VGA:

"The GeForce GTX 275 is used to connect to the screen, a single-GPU card had to be used due to technical reasons which restricted the FASTRA II from using more than 13 GPUs, more info about this can be found below."

"The system is theoretically capable of supporting 14 GPUs by inserting seven dual-GPU graphics cards but this didn't work as the system wouldn't boot due to memory allocation issues caused by the 32-bit BIOS. To deal with the issue, they worked together with ASUS to develop a custom BIOS that skips initialization of certain types of graphics cards during boot. To still get output from the system, one card must be of a different type and that's why they used a GeForce GTX 275. Due to this BIOS hack, the Linux OS kernel had to be modified to leave all memory address space allocation up to the operating system. Unfortunately FASTRA II still suffers from stability issues, it is capable of performing successful computations with all 13 GPUs simultaneously, but it regularly crashes. The stability issues seem to be related to problems with the NVIDIA driver and/or the changes made to the Linux kernel. The researchers hope the publicity surrounding the launch of FASTRA II will help them to get more support to solve these issues."

More info can be found here:
http://fastra2.ua.ac.be/

Just thought this would be cool to show, the GT200b's shall live on people.

Peace.

General Discussions / Post your 3dfx systems !
09 November 2009, 01:14:17
Hi all

Post your 3dfx systems! That is the idea, since it would be nice to see what the people of 3dfxzone.it have been constructing all this time ;)

So to bring back my 3dfx life to a better spot, I have been re-building my 3dfx system since it was needed, the cables were kinda messy and now it has gotten alot neater so here we go :)

It's running now :) I did decide to keep the original flat cables , because of the small case thesewere much easier to fold and store away, them rounded ones were too stiff, so I left them aside.

It looks like this now :)

High-Res:

Also what I did was replace the Lockheed F19 Stealth Fighter with Gold Leader's Y-Wing Starfighter, as being Gold Leader, this does fit my system alot more  [8D]

Win2K is running top notch it boots fast, runs stable and no lockups yet at low, medium and high loads.

DXX-Rebirth runs perfect too, this time I did not need to change the reso manually from 800 c600, leav e the program boot it again and then manually to 1024 x 768, this time it just booted at 800 x 600 and I could change the reso within the game and without leaving it and go back and change it again.

This is still needed under 98SE, XP and Vista, so odd that 2000 does not have this issue.

Anyways not that it matters it has 2000 and so far everything is running fine, I'll make some pics today and post them, only the system needs is a 4 ported PCI USB card and a game drive of 500GB from Western Digital.

As you can  see the molex power connector is available and for the rest the layout and FF, System is runn;'n just fine  8)

But so far so good!  [8D]

Okay people since I have returned to 3dfx collecting with the 5000 AGP I had this in mind, it maybe an interesting idea to find out how many 5000's are really out there right and it does not matter if it is an AGP or PCI. ;)

So here we go then, I'll make a list of all the 5000's including AGP's and the PCI's in one list, since there is only one type of AGP the Rev.A0 3700 sofor that part it would be hard to make a different type amount hehe.

The other V5K Lists can be found here:

So some of you may think 3 types of 5000's what in the world? heh well I'll explain that here [8D]

3dfx Voodoo5 5000 PCI Rev.A0 4899

http://www.3dfx.ch/gallery/d/33341-1/3dfx+Voodoo5+5000+PCI+32MB+Rev_A0+4899.jpg

The first ever built 3dfx Voodoo5 5000 was a PCI Variant which is a Rev.A0 4899 [week 48 , year 1999]
This card is packed with hand done reworks and it runs cores/mem 100Mhz.

The card's Bios is 1.00a and it boots only in single chip showing that the card only has half of the total  32768KB / 32MB of ram which is 16384KB/16MB.

osckhar is the only person in the world with this card :)
The cool thing is that this card used to be from Guru Of 3D :) since it was tested here:
http://guru3d.com/tech/cebit2000/index3.html

"The Voodoo 5 above is based on the version A0 VSA-100 silicon, it still has some bugs in it and it can't run on the speed that it's supposed to do. The final Silicon (which is going into mass-production quite soon) will run on 166MHz compared to the 100 MHz A0 version that was presented to me."

I also found this driver for the Voodoo5 5000 @ Guru Of 3D
http://downloads.guru3d.com/Voodoo-5-5000-Windows-2000--v1.04b-download-151.html

3dfx Voodoo5 5000 PCI 32MB Rev.A1 0900

http://www.3dfx.ch/gallery/d/4259-2/V5_5000.jpg

http://www.3dfx.ch/gallery/d/4251-2/DSCN0042.jpg

The Rev.A1 0900 [week 09, year 2000] is the second PCI variant of the Voodoo5 5000 as the first Voodoo5 5000 of year 2000.

It did have a few modifications as it has no more hand done reworks which resulted a much cleaner PCB layout.

It also has some differences from the Capacitors it has compared to the older Rev.A0 4899, the Rev.A0 4899 used the older SMD like Capacitors small flat square ones where as the Rev.A1 0900 used the more modern type round sealed capacitors.

The Rev.A1 0900 runs cores/ram 143Mhz ths faster than it Rev.A0 4899 brother, it also had better SLI support and at boot up it also posts the cards full ram amount of 32768KB/32MB of ram.

after this model there were no other PCI variant made I suppose the entire 5000 project was put aside until week 37 of year 2000 3dfx gave it another go.

There is a review of the Rev.A1 0900 over here at HardCorp from Kyle Bennett himself, only that review is somewhat lost I did find the same review on Tweakers.net with Kyle's comments :)
http://tweakers.net/nieuws/9753/3dfx-voodoo5-5000-pci-pics.html

3dfx Voodoo5 5000 AGP 32MB Rev.A0 3700

http://www.3dfx.ch/gallery/d/6873-2/DSC00912.jpg

http://www.3dfx.ch/gallery/d/6876-2/DSC00914.jpg

The Rev.A0 3700 is the last known Voodoo5 5000 every made by 3dfx and it's also the first 5000 that uses the AGP connector as this one even uses the AGP x4 connector it runs @ AGP x2 66Mhz Bus with 3.3Volts only.

As you can see 3dfx also redesigned the 5000 AGP's layout hence it uses a much shorter PCB ;)
The reason why 3dfx made this card with an AGP x4 connector is somewhat strange, since they never anticipated to build an AGP x2 model they just went on and made it like this instead which still troubles my mind as that of others.

This card runs cores/ram 166Mhz and has Bios 1.15 it also reports it's full ram capacity @ boot up which is 32768KB / 32MB.

The Rev.A0 3700 is also the most stable as well known 5000 out there though that it's such a late variant of the card type it's self, most 5000 keepers have this card, some have it because it is the odd ball of the 3 5000's and some have it because of it's rarity factor amongst other Voodoo5 AGP cards it's a famous collectors item as which goes for any Voodoo5 5000 variant.

There is a review of my first Voodoo5 5000 AGP 32MB Rev.A0 3700 which showed my results of the card in action with SLI and FSAA x4 modes under 98SE NL + UnOfficial Service Pack 2.03NL @ 3dfxzone.it:

If there are more people that needed to be added just post here or just ring a bell via PM.

If there are more people that are not in this List please let post here and let me add you [:I]

HI all, the last few days, weeks months have been power draining as my A-Autistic Disorder is acting like some time of detailed boarderline syndrome , changes are very hard to take with many specific detailed things.

Like these 3dfx sales I have been putting on and off ebay, my mind goes on then off then on then off everyday this is getting worse and I have thought about a long term leave.

I have done many 3dfx people alot of pain this way as made their 3dfx lives too confusing and yes I ahve truely failed you people I have truely failed you all.

My head is now like a raging fire of confusions and sometimes it made me so bad that in some cases suicidal.

my life has gotten from pretty good to pretty bad and why this is all happening I just don't understand, it;'s like some virus eating away everything.

The Force has drained out of me and now I must go to exile.

I thank all the people here that have supported me, The Force Glows greatly with you all.

I emailed the Admin to remove this topic because I want nothing to do with it due to the PM & Email bombardments of trevormacro, but I removed the info myself, this topic was my creation thus I end it myself then.

Sorry but it left me no choice.

You will have learn to live with it.

Peace.

A new game tested on the Voodoo5 5500 PCI namen MortyrII

The setup I used for Mortyr II has the following specifications :)

AMD AthlonXP 2700+
3x 512MB PC2700
ASUS A7V333-R VIA Apollo KT333
3dfx Voodoo5 5500 PCI 64MB Rev.A1 2900
Creative Audigy2 Platinum

Windows 2000 Professional + Service Pack 4 & Rollup1 For Service Pack4
Amigamerlin 3.1 R11 + Koolsmokey's Voodoo Control 1.82b.
DirectX 9.0c

For the Voodoo5 I used the following settings:

And yes here are the Mortyr II settings, kinda optimal but the game ran fine.

So her'e s the ingame menu looking good so far :)

So here I'm playing the game, though I had to hit the ESC button to make a pic with the printscreen key, dunno why but ingame I seen no glitches or what so ever.

Since the Voodoo5 5500 PCI is mysyb VGA anotherscreen shot key couldn't be used, the game have a console, only the commands seem to be different to that of the Quake series as HalfLife series
Well so far I'm at level 2, fewer parts of the game are a bit too heavy for the Voodoo5 5500 PCI, I'm quite sure that the people with a Voodoo 5 5500 AGPas 6000 AGP will have better game play than on a 5500 PCI @ 1024 x 768 x32 hehe, but overall it runs very well on the 5500 PCI.
