Title: A good song for the fall of 3dfx....
Post by: Obi-Wan Kenobi on 15 February 2004, 02:09:34
I was thinking and wondering, about 3dfx when they were trying to make a comeback with thier Rampage card but they just didnt make it.

I found A song for that sad moment that would fit in nicely:

Spend all your time waiting
for that second chance [With 3dfx's Rampage]
for a break that would make it okay
there's always some reason
to feel not good enough
and it's hard at the end of the day
I need some distraction
oh beautiful release
memory seeps from my veins
let me be empty
oh and weightless and maybe
I'll find some peace tonight

In the arms of the angel
fly away from here
from this dark cold hotel room
and the endlessness that you fear
you are pulled from the wreckage
of your silent reverie
you're in the arms of the angel
may you find some comfort here

So tired of the straight line
and everywhere you turn
there's vultures and thieves at your back [nVidia I mean about this line]
and the storm keeps on twisting
you keep on building the lie
that you make up for all that you lack
it don't make no difference
escaping one last time
it's easier to believe in this sweet madness oh
this glorious sadness that brings me to my knees

In the arms of an angel
fly away from here
from this dark cold hotel room
and the endlessness that you fear
you are pulled from the wreckage
of your silent reverie
you're in the arms of the angel
may you find some comfort here
you're in the arms of the angel
may you find some comfort here

3dfx was for me a very important company, and sometimes I cry that they don't exsist anymore[:(][:(][:(]

Man I miss them just too much[V]

The only way to remember them well is come to this forum and also collect thier card designs [B)]

hmm, perhaps you might have mentioned that the song is Angel by Sarah Mclachlan (I think I spelled that right)

jesus, don't cry, they were just computer parts...computer parts that revolutionized the industry, but computer parts none the less.

The thing is that in a way it's good that 3dfx is gone.  I mean it's bad for support for the cards out there, but it's good for everyone's memory of the company.  The reason I say this is that the graphic card industry moves in cycles, and that by now, 3dfx if was still around might be a much more typical graphic card company, rather than the innovators they were in the beginning.  I mean, Voodoo Graphics wouldn't be magic words if there was a voodoo 7 Nitro Edition out now and everyone was talking about how much faster their Radeon's were, or how the things were just barely better than one of those unbelievably aweful nvidia cards ;), or how dissapointed their monkey's uncle's sister's cousin was with her 3dmark2003 score for all the money he spent.  I'm not saying that's the way it would have been.  Just that it could have turned out that way, since safety often becomes more important to a company than risky venture as it ages.  3dfx is going to be a legend that's remembered for a long time this way, and isn't that better than being just another video card company in an oily barrel full of them?

Yes that would be an amzing thing to give the designs of the voodoo's how the cards are made and the chips.
But do I have to go to Nvidia for the designs or are the designs already on the net????
I would be great to have the designs, you could make voodoo's with them. Or if you are filthy rich:D wich I am not[V], you could make a anniversary voodoo based on a voodoo 1,2 or 5 ( voodoo3 is not good
to make a SLI card ) Then you would have a 0.13 micron (or 0.9) Voodoo 5 running at 500 mhz dual :D. And a voodoo1 running at maybe 4ghz (because there are so little transistors).

But I think it will never happen[V]. It is a pitty

but still, the love and dedication 3dfx gave to us fans and gamers, and the best gaming expirience we had from these 'parts' will never return...
