Yes...except the glide version works OK on the Voodoo 5.

How about an update?

Did you get EF2000 Gfx+ going on the Voodoo 5 5500??  What about FSAA??

I used to play EF2000 Gfx+ under Win98 no problems with the Voodoo 2 so I'm keen to know your environment variables to get it going on the Voodoo 5! [:p]

Yes, that "patch" is actually a replacement "mdk95.exe" which fixes a specific bug in the European "mdk95.exe" version that prevents the user saving during cut scenes and freefall (like the US version does).

Later Shiny released two 3D versions "mdkd3d.exe" for direct 3D support, and "mdk3dfx.exe" with native glide support.  Both versions have that F2 save key fix in them anyway.

I use mdk3dfx.exe and mdkd3d.exe, but not mdk95.exe.

Oh well, I guess I can only get the mdk3dfx.exe to work on the voodoo 5500.  I'll have to settle using the mdkd3d.exe on the SIS6326 card instead of the voodoo2 :(

Nah, it doesn't care.:)

Hi everyone,

I recently downloaded MDK from www.the-underdogs.org and then downloaded the 3Dfx patch from http://www.3dgamers.com/games/mdk/downloads/ and it works no problems using a Voodoo5.

But when I went to use it on the Voodoo2, everything was going great until I went to save game (by pressing F2) then the screen went black and I have to reset the PC.

Has anyone got this going on the Voodoo2?

Really?

What sort of problems?  Do you have a thread to point me to?[?]

Yes 4xFSAA works fine.

Strange though - it doesnt seem to drop the framerate when I turn it on, but it looks very nice.  Sorry, I'm new to this whole Voodoo 5 thing - Just got it going the other day!

So are you suggesting that it's only in single chip mode or something??

Driver reports 64Mb of RAM, and it gives me the following options:

Lol, He meant AUSTRALIA!;)

Reminds me of that movie "Dumb and Dumber" where he meets the girl from Austria and says: "Austria!!  Well!!  G'day mate - let's throw another shrimp on the barbie!!"

Yes, I used the "1.18PCIDV" that I download from "http://welcome.to/3dfxbios" too.[8D]

Instructions are at http://welcome.to/3dfxbios as well.

DVI works great, but you can't use both the DVI and the SVGA at the same time (i.e. 2 monitors).

Put the monitor on the AGP card first so you can see what you are doing when you flash.

After you get the "flash successful" message, put the monitor on the PCI card and remove the AGP card.  Simple!

Further to this I'm pretty sure I know what the problem is...

It is a limit of texture memory on the boards because it doesn't only happen in this game, but any other game as well.

For example, running MDK2 with high textures slows it right down to 4fps, but using low textures it runs ok 20+fps.

Well I've whacked the V5 into an Abit BE6 mobo with a PIII-500 (with no interrupt assigned) and it's blisteringly fast now:)

I honestly don't think it needs an interrupt at all! :D

Um, yes and just don't worry about the problems I had in that thread PS47 has referenced - that card was DEAD so that was the real problem.

I purchased another MAC PCI Voodoo 5 5500 the other day and it flashed fine - even the DVI works!  You just have to ensure you use the version 1.18 BIOS.

I placed that vard in a Abit BE6 mobo with a PIII-500 running XP and the AmigaMerlin 3.1 drivers and I'm getting 40-60fps on Unreal Tournament! [:p]

Also, don't worry too much if the flash program locks up half way through programming the EEPROM - just reboot the PC and try again - it really is failsafe.[8D]

G'day mate!:)

Your power supply is plenty - I doubt that D3D needs more power than Glide anyway :D - I run a V5 on a 200watt supply.

Hmmm, I have noticed some Voodoo 5 5500's locking up in double chip mode, but not in single ship mode was due to damaged DRAM, but in your case it still works in Glide so that most likely rules that out unless it's started doing it all of a sudden.

It is most likely purely a D3D configuration problem.  So you can't get any D3D stuff going at all, not even older games etc??  Has it ever been OK with D3D?

Have you considered using the AmigaMerlin drivers instead?  I've found them to be better then the official drivers, well for XP anyway.

Finally, and it's a long shot, I noticed your BIOS is 1.06 and there are newer versions around that might improve your preformance/stability.  I guess I can't comment on how much since I have a MAC PCI version which I flashed to PC 1.18 version, so I'm not sure about AGP BIOS upgrade improvements.

Any other AGP owners like to comment on that?  Is it worth the upgrade?

By the way, does the Voodoo 5 5500 need an interrupt?

I seem to find no difference when I allocate it one in the BIOS.

Yes - same problem.

Actually you will find most modern PCI cards can go much higher than the standard 33Mhz.  For example, I never had a problem with my Voodoo2 SLI arrangement sitting on 44Mhz [8D]

The Voodoo 5 5500 is actually rated as a 66Mhz capable PCI card.;)
