How do i explain this properly ?.

Ok here it goes say your going to install a new motherboard
cpu and memory and possibly a new hard drive.

Lets also say that the hard drive you have right now has a lot of very important stuff on it that would be very hard to replace.

Is it possible to install the new hard drive on the new system
set it to master and the old one to slave ? or would that cause any problems because you have windows installed on the old one as well?

God i hope that made sense : ).

                        Thanks for your input LD,

I am dead set on another asus mobo since thats all i ever use
the problem is i can't decide which one i really like the P4S800
Deluxe it seems to have it all. but i have not been able to find it anywhere THE P4SDX looks good too but i don't like the lay out especially the cpu being so close to the agp slot.

I was wondering if a pentium 4 system requires a 400w power supply or can it run good with a 350watt ?.

I have been reading good things about the sis 648 chip set series
whats your opinion on which chipset and cpu to use both for stability as well as over clocking a pentium 4 system?.......

Which files should be removed?
Also could i use my exsisting hard disk as a slave drive without removing the OS so i can leave the exsisting data intact? .......

                  Thank's LD,

Ok i was wondering today if it's even possible to install a new motherboard without re-installing the os i have built several systems but i always re-installed windows so i don't know if it's even possible.

Right now i am running an asus P3V4X and was thinking about upgrading to an asus P4S800.
but i would really hate to wipe my hard drive.

Any suggestions?.......

                      Thanks, LD,

Simply put are 4x cards fully compatable with 8x agp motherboards? and vice versa an 8x card in a 4x slot etc ?

To be more specific would an abit geforce ti4200 OTES 4x work well
in an asus pentium 4 8x board like the p4s800 or the p4sdx ?

Thanks in advance you guys rock!.

Thanks for the help, i really want an asus pentium 4 mobo to work with one of my voodoo 5 agp cards.
I have been studying the specs and reviews on sites like asus.com and new egg.com etc but i am still not sure which ones will work.
It just seem to me that any board with a 4x slot should work with it i think it just seems logical that it should?
i am obviously confused i wonder if there is anyone out there who has an asus pentium 4 mobo with an agp voodoo 5 in it.
i would really like to see what it could do on an over 2 ghz system.

Thanks for you input i value it.

Hello everyone i am new but i am a long time 3dfx owner and fan
i need some advice to make a long story shorter i am thinking seriously about up grading from my pentium 3 to a pentium 4
right now i am running my asus p3v4x mobo with 640mb of pc133
and a p3 700e @ 826  and i would really like to upgrade to an asus pentium 4 motherboard but i am very concerned that my voodoo 5 5500
might not be compatable with any of them even the ones that have the 4x agp slots and the sis chipsets .

Here is a list of asus motherboards i an considering.

ASUS P4SDX
ASUS P4S800
ASUS P4S533X
ASUS P4PE-X

The price range i am looking at is under $100.00
i would hate to buy a new mobo only to find out it wont work with a voodoo 5 any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

                       Sincerely LD.
