dxdiag shows many things incorrectly,as long as the cards work and they show up as 2x12MB in games, there is nothing wrong with them..check the quake console.

Normal, i would say.
A V2 with 12 mb has 4 mb for frame buffer and 8 mb for texture memory. In Sli mode, the frame buffer memory is added but not the texture memory because the same textures are duplicated on both cards (so you (still and always) will have 8 mb of texture memory)
So 4 + 4 + 8 = 16.

A V2 with 8 mb has 4 mb for the framebuffer and 4 mb for the textures.
In Sli mode, you will get 12 mb for memory (2x4 framebuffer + 4 textures) and DxDiag will see 12.
