Title: Which Amigamerlin?
Post by: Ree on 25 November 2005, 23:01:35
Which are the latest Amigamerlin drivers suitable for Voodoo3 2000 and Win XP? On Win 98 SE I was using Amigamerlin 2.9.

Currently I`m back to Windows 98 with x3dfx drivers. As somebody said the best drivers are for windows 98 and he/she was absolutley right. I`m havin' v3 2000 myself and I prefer x3dfx drivers a lot more... and ofcourse Windows98SE to XP. But if you have better comp then mine then XP isnt a bad idea.

<<As somebody said the best drivers are for windows 98 and he/she was absolutley right.>>
Who is that somebody and where did he say that?

I'm not going to play tons of 3d games with my voodoo, I just need it to run CS 1.6 with mesaFX just as good (or even better) on XP as it did on my win 98 SE install. I've simply reached the point where I pretty much cannot do without win XP, but I'd still want to play CS 1.6 from time to time, untill I get myself a new comp.

http://www.shifter.sk/helppage/default_fix.htm#voodoosandcs

the driver is not too important (amigasport,SFFT,its your choice),but make sure you have a REAL glide2x (http://www.inc_exe.szm.sk/glide2x_v345.zip) in your windows/system32 folder.

OK, so I will install amigasport and SFFT... btw what is SFFT? And where do I get it? Also what do you mean REAL glide2x? What's wrong with that comming in amigasport package?

Remember:
WickedGL regular/high resolution need glide2x!
Special WickedGL Compiled Driver need glide3x!
Mesa is not good...
I have voodoo3 2000->mod bios voodoo3 3000@205Mhz!:)-800/600-monitor 100Hz-fps_max 100 in console->100FPS(200-developer 1) on aztec.
In amigasport package is wrapper glide2x to glide3x

Ree sorry for no exact quote about the one from Ive read the thing about that the best drivers are for w98se but im sure you`ll find it using search option if the exact form and author is so vitaly important for you...

Ive wrote that because I`ve tested both systems and dozens of diferent drivers and I`ve found x3dfx the best same as win98se if we are talking about gaming... XP is good but for better comp. ... BTW what are your specs ?

yes.wickedgl is much faster than mesafx (especially with games that use halflife1 engine).wickedgl uses glide2x,and it wont work with the glide2x to glide3x wrapper that comes with the amigasport package.SFFT driver should be ok,it comes with a real glide2x right away (but it doesnt have a control panel)..

Guys, you got me confused... I know I need Amigasport 3.0 XP (for win xp). What else do I need besides that? On the site you have it that mesa is an improvement, now magillom says it's slow... Could someone please tell me exactly what I need to use (besides amigasport) on windows XP. I am running V3 2000. Thanks in advance.

Ree as I told erlyier, from my tests and experience x3dfx drivers seem to be the fastest, Ive tried amigamerlins and they are slow even with low quality settings... But then again what are your specs ?

Specs do not matter in this case, I am still going to install Win Xp. It's PIII 450 MHz, 320 SDRAM, Voodoo3 2000.

Just trying to find out what exactly I should install, so that my voodoo runs well on xp.

I would do this:
-download and install amigasport3.0xp (see the readme for detailed instructions)
-download a real glide2x (http://www.inc_exe.szm.sk/glide2x_v345.zip) and extract it to your windows/system32 folder
-install wickedgl, open the wickedgl folder, and copy the opengl32.dll file to your counterstrike folder

I have linked detailed instructions already (http://www.shifter.sk/helppage/default_fix.htm#voodoosandcs),read it carefully and you will have all the info you need..

as for mesafx, its more compatible, but usually slower.basically, you should use mesafx only when the game doesnt work with other opengl drivers (or when you need the special features like sw rescaling)..

ps47, I'm going to follow your advice. Just I'd like to ask, you know WIn XP installs its default voodoo driver upon installation and in Amigasport 3.0 XP readme it is stated that old driver should be removed. Can I simply install Amigasport on top of it? If not, how exactly do I remove the driver?

Post by: ps47 on 27 November 2005, 20:44:28
you dont need to remove the default xp driver.step 1 is valid only if you already have some 3rdparty xp driver installed.just go directly to step 2,and everything should work ok..
