About the Banshee, nice to read again the old news (when always online)

or

Hardgame has done a review of the Guillemot Maxi Gamer Phoenix (Banshee) card.  As usual, they have done a great job with lots of benchmarks and screenshots.  Here is a bit from it :
Without a doubt the 3Dfx Banshee is a 2D/3D chip to be reckoned with and made me forget all about the Rush fiasco. The Phoenix Banshee gives you the power of a Voodoo2 at an incredibly low price point. Including Half-Life: Day One in the game bundle was a great move and with 16 MB of memory, you'll be set for the next wave of 3D games to hit the market. This is not one of those cheap cards that are obsolete the minute you buy them. While the Phoenix is certainly an impressive 2D/3D card, the performance hit in multi-texture games and the 16-bit color limit are also potential issues that you should weigh. Even with those aspects in mind, I can't help but think 3Dfx and Guillemot have really got a winner here, and I think it's high time that more gamers experience exactly what has made the 3Dfx name so special.

But/And the Card was sold...

Anyway let's give to XGI and S3 some time ; the market needs more competitors.

edit : @Mei
QuoteThe Banshee was crap, the Voodoo3 was crap (no stencil, 32 bit, etc.), the Voodoo4&5 were crap, and the 6000 was too.
Interesting viewpoint (::) but i doubt that you had a 3dfx card in your machine now.
About the last generation (the VSA 100), probably already too many problems inside 3dfx and unluckily.
But thanks to the some prototypes and specimens cards found (and for many of among them, capable of running), a future has been envisaged.
But all that is history now.

Anyway, even if this topic is about XGI, don't forgot S3 and the DeltaChrome ; this card is probably better than some people think about it.

but maybe it's possible to apply all the fixes which were made to w2k/xp  core to w9x core. I guess it wouldn't take much work.
This is probably easier to start and run a game under Win9x than under Win2k and under XP.
But indeed, if a game has problems under Win9x and Win2k/XP and if the problem can be fixed under Win2k/XP, so would be interesting to try to fix it under Win9x, using the same way but without forgotting that the kernel, the driver, the gfx card are or can be different.

Of course, my Voodoo 5 (and others) succeeds without problem DxDiag under DirX9 and simply because DirX9 is (still) backwards compatible.
But my Card is even not a DirX8 card.
But if a game needs absolutely some features of DirX9, you have "some chances" that the game will not start without forgotting that "some" games like ATI and NVidia cards and only them.
Why do you say that your driver refuses to try the DX9 Api ?

"The problem" if "problem" is that people use or will use this core with the last games, so under DirX 8.1 / DirX 9.0 and because it owns more capabilities.
And since this core exists also under Win2k, it would be probably possible to adapt it under XP and this way to increase perhaps with a Voodoo Card the compatibility of the games with this OS (or XP with the games and a Voodoo Card [:p]), offering an other DirX core.
Anyway Raziel64 knows already this/my idea. ;)
We need "simply" that some people work on this core [:p], so SuperFurryFurryThing thks for your contribution present (and future). :)

This is not NuAngel'core.
Some NuAngel drivers are using simply the last beta core done by Reid Campbell and a Team.

I doubt also that R.C gives a source in public.

The problem is simply in the inf.

@SuperFurryFurryThing
The core is beta and is stayed beta. But it's very promising. It was the last core done by 3dfx employees, in feb. 2001.
Because it's the last, it offers probably the best support for DirX8 but feel free to work on it. ;)
