Set all of the detail levels to low.

I think it even runs good with max details (on a voodoo5)...
are the post process effects still buggy? last time I checked, they worked, but caused parts of Max to disappear..
I havn't tested it heavily, it can be got to run if you play around with the options.

OK not at all. But I couldn't see any postprocessingeffects. So I turned it off. This made higher fps.

I had to turn the detail settings down to get all of Max to show,I presume that it is simply running out of memory at higher details, if you play around with the settings it seems to work fine.

Strange. I turned everthing to lowest detail. Now postprocessing works, but Max suffers from graphicsglitches and has no legs. [V]

That was what I got initialy, I clicked on the low button then re-enabled tri-linear filtering, and got the pictures I posted earlier.
Max definitely has legs on them, and all of the intro movies played.
