AMD Video Cards / Quake on Lower Radeons
19 September 2006, 03:42:26
I see, so Quake 4 doesn't use the same communication system Doom 3 does with the Hardware... I have however made SOME progress on it.

It actually amazes me on how a new game like this looks on older, and unsupported hardware. Where as a new game like Phantasy Star Universe works, but everything is so jagged looking.

Has anyone had any luck with PSU? I'm just curious to see if it will run on any of the Voodoos.

Yes, I know but that changes the whole look to Quake 4, basically disabling almost all the specular, making the shadows look like crap, makes the bump maps look horrible, and the colors to dull for it. I'm talking about keeping somewhat of the quality, atleast for the models in game. This is done by switching the rendering system from r200, or ARB2, to ARB. But like I said, you lose massive quality. I want a way to keep quality in the game.

AMD Video Cards / upgrading my driver

Catalyst 6.6 only supports the Radeon 9500-and up.So, if you have and older Radeon than that, then use  the 6.5 radeon.

AMD Video Cards / Quake on Lower Radeons

Well, I've figured out why Quake 4 has graphic problems on Radeons lower than the 9700. It's because Quake 4 uses Open GL 2.0, and the lower radeons except for the Radeon 9600 XT and pro don't use Open Gl 2.0, and the D3 engine is completly based on Open GL. That's the problem. Well, I'm trying to fix that problem because my laptop has a mobility Radeon 9000 in it, and I want to play the game while I'm away from home. I need help on this though. I can't do it on my own. I want to alter the moddified engine to use open gl lower than 2.0.Would anyone be able to help me?I only know how to compile new maps for the d3 engine, and textures. So it would be appreciated.

AMD Video Cards / Radeon 9600

Recently I had bought a Radeon 9600 PRO off of Ebay, saying it might be missing a capacitator. Well, I checked it, and there is a tear where something was welded on.I'm pretty sure that's the capacitor that "might" have been missing. Will I be able to use it still?Or, do I need to do something to get it to work?I'll give you a picture of it.

Near the heatsink on the right side is the tear.

A dual core lower than 2 ghz?o_O That's odd, but that's still a good CPU.

Great work.=]

I actually like Most wanted on low detail. The high detail is nice, but in a different style I don't like to much.Only thing I put on, is high textures.

Well, I can't post any pictures just yet, so if you wait until tommarrow or the next day, then I can get.I can tell you what I'm using though.

Intel Pentium 3 600
512 SD
Maxtor 60 gig
Default resolution of 640X480, the only resolution PSO will run on.

I'll post them in a couple of days when the torrent of it is done.Alittle change in hardward though.

The Doom 3 Voodoo 2 patch works on Quake 4, weather or not the Voodoo 2 patch will work on a voodoo 5, I don't know.

Kinda creepy that it looks like it's ran on a Radeon 9000.

My little brothers computer has the 9000 in it.And thios is how it looks.

As long as it reads it as generic, it should work for dual moniter support. But other than that, I can't help you.

o_o Funny, because with $600 us, you can buy a brand new Radeon.
